Help identifying the second issue coolant fan

Purchased a coolant fan described as being removed from a 2006 due to an upgrade. I received the fan tested it and it operates as designed. That is, both speeds run. What concerns me here is the missing dust cover that protects the radiator side of the fan. Any of you that have removed the original production fan, 2003-2004, 2005?, have noticed that the motor is not protected from dirt that may come thru the radiator.

Previous post here referenced that the second issue of the fan included a dust cover to protect the motor.

Other then the dust cover is there any other way to identfy the upgraded fan?

Do the numbers on the white paper sticker on the top bracket of the fan offer a clue to the production date.

The dust cover was on the earlier fans only. Somewhere in mid 2005, the vendor made an improvement to the fan that eliminated the need for the foam filter. As far as I know, there was not a part number change. Design changes usually require a part number change to maintain configuration control, but I think they exhausted the old stock completely when they brought in the "new" design. If both speeds operate and it is out of an '06, you should have a good back-up part.

Please post the numbers off the paper sticker. It may be something like 15816298

I've got access to a couple removed fans from different years and will cross check the P/N's....

Regards,

Mike

My new style fan also came without the foam, but I removed it from the original fan and installed it on the new one.

Thought I would also provide the numbers off the stickers on the 04 & 05.
04 - RD2004037021
05 - RD2004273022

The reason I mention a dust shield is because the Mitchells collison guide for 2004-2005 years list a part number and picture of what looks to be a domed piece for the front of the fan. While the 2003 Mitchells doen't show a shield.

Anyone who wants a complete list of parts for the SSR should look in to purchasing one of these guides. They're often available on ebay at a reasonable price. The part numbers are correct GM numbers. I've checked several on the gmpartsdirect website.
