Hood release cable doesn't affect your hood latch from locking. Problem with a stretch cable is that when you go to open the hood the cable is to long to pull the release on the latch. If you are having trouble latching it make sure first that the latch is not already in the closed position.

The problem is the latch is closed and cable won't open it to close hood. I took it apart and cleaned, lube and reinstalled. It let me close an secure ok. However there is still to much slack in the cable.

So if the latch works properly and you pull the release handle all the way out, your cable is stretch and is ready to break. Don't wait to replace it. It can be a real nightmare if it breaks with the hood shut.

If you need the entire assembly here is one on EBay, has an offer price button as well so make your own price I think that is a pretty rare problem, not sure if I remember anyone asking about it before. Although I did visit a dealer with an SSR and while looking it over we could not get the hood to open.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
