Question How do I get a ding fixed?

Hi:

I did it, it's all my fault! While parking Ruby in our garage I became distracted by some furniture stored there during our home re-decorating project and scraped the left front fender against a drywalled ceiling support post. There is 1/4" high X 7" long area scraped just above the wheel well where some of the paint was removed down to bare metal and some minor denting with a little dent/scratch about 4" above that. I'm just sick about this.

Problem is: I never have had to any body work done to any vehicle I've owned and I actually don't know the best way to approach the problem.

I live in Ventura County California. Should I take this into the dealer, or try to find a body/paint shop in the area? Should I have the whole fender re-painted or just the area where the damage is? There is some pin stripping, done by a local artist, on the upper portion of the fender just below the hood seam and around the wheel well, maybe the fender could be masked over the pin stripping, although I'm sure I can get the pin stripping re-done by the same artist, if it needs to be.

Should I contact my insurance company and risk getting my currently low-cost policy, $580/year, increased? Is this considered a collision or is it covered as a comprehensive claim?

I'm lost; if anybody has any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate some input.

Thanks,

Not good news Bob. I sympathise
My own truck has a scratch that needs repair
I have had bumper work done by the Chevy dealer William Morris in Simi.
It turned out fine.
I would start there. it will be good as new.

Driving mine down the highway about 6 months ago a carton of chalking fell off a truck and hit my front finder in 2 SMALL places one above the headlight and one below the headlight. Had 3 estimates from $856 to $1197.

Mike, You shouldn't be out driving those Texas highways without some type of bra on.

The GT 40 in my aviator arrived Wednesday night - somewhere between Scottsdale Lotus and Houston in an enclosed trailer it received a small dent in the front fender about the size of a nickel. Had a paintless dent guy come over and for $125 he took it out in about an hour. Can't tell it.
