How do you disassemble the steering wheel

in order to access the buttons/switches? Is it a matter of pulling off the horn/airbag cover and removing mounting screws for the trim piece?

Reason I ask is, even though I had the buttons replaced under warranty I may need to replace them again. Don't ask.

The switch is like $15 at GM Parts Direct, I just want to be able to swap it out myself, if possible.

Wingrider? Any advice help would be appreciated.

From the 2006 service manual:

1. Disconnect battery neg terminal. Protect setting off SIR
2. Insert a blunt end tool (small punch) in the two holes located on the steering wheel shroud (located along the column behind the wheel and about 180 degrees apart). This will release the air bag.
3. Disconnect the bag harness
4. Remove the steering wheel. You will need a puller. (I have never done it, might not need to pull the wheel if you use a stubby screw driver) Given there are multiple shrouds, the base shroud might prevent the cover shroud removal,,,if this is the case the wheel will need to be removed,,,,hard to tell in the manual.
5. Remove the wheel shrouds (screws in the back)
6. Use a blunt tool to disengage the switch from the housing.

Done.

I to would be interested in how to remove the steering wheel. Need to send them out one at a time to be recovered in yellow leather with black inserts.

Would have asked sooner but I needed to get the leather to match the rest of the interior first.

Thanks
