How much noise can a rivet make?

A lot.

This posting surely won't change the SSR world, but I thought I was pass along some knowledge I've gained over the past couple days about a noise I've been listening to for the last couple of months.

I'm not a petite thing, so I know I put a lot of stress on my SSR's driver seat. But my 03/05 SSRs did not have a problem with me.

The past couple of months the driver's seat would produce a good amount of "creaking" noise when the back of the seat was moved from side-to-side with weight (me or even a slight hand press) on the bottom seat cushion. I spent some time a couple of days ago to find this noise because it was really getting annoying.

What I found was an aluminum rivet that secures a bar that runs from side-to-side in the seat bottom that was a "bit loose". That allowed the bar to move enough (against the rivet) to make the lovely creaking noise it was making. I drilled it out and replaced it with a bolt and the noise is GONE!

I didn't think to take a picture when I had the seat bottom cushion lifted up to gain access to the rivet, but I've taken a picture with the removed rivet sitting on the seat cushion just above where it was located below the seat cushion.

What a difference!

I hope that helps someone else with a similar noise in the future.

Interesting.

I get a good creak from the leather rubbing up on the center console.....(I know if I just put some leather treatment on it, it would probably go away....right now I just have a small towel between the seat and console)
