I finally broke the tires loose on my '03

Almost 2 two years of ownership and now 16,000 miles, I finally broke the tires loose on the '03
Thanks to evryone who has been suggesting pulling the PCM fuses, I did that this AM and went out for a ride. I am happy!!!
Even though I have the SCT XCAL2 installed, it just would not break them loose.
Now when I stomp on the pedal, with the TC in the off position, it is music to my ears.... Not the power of the LS1 in the GTO or the C5's, or the LS2's in the SSR's, but it is a start.
I think I'll have a cold one tonight...........

Hmmmmmmmm......

I was never really disappointed in the power of my '03 enough to try pulling the fuse.......maybe I'll have something to do this weekend. (yes I thought of a super charger....but that wasn't free power)

Did you ever do any 0-60 times? I think that mine was about 6.5 secs.....although that was more than a year and 50,000 miles ago.

Pull fuses #13 & #29 on the 03 & 04. Have not done 0-60 times....
I have to say there is an improvement off the line, but the 5.3 falls flat towards the upper range....thinking about the 4.10's and torque converter sometime down the road, we shall see.......

Will it make a dfference on a stock 2003? What do these fuses control?

Free power?? Because I rode behind you and Matt on the Chocolate tour and had to listen to your exhaust system, YOU FORCED ME to buy a system from Mike in AZ! I am glad you are saving money because you have killed my poor wallet.
However, while the extra 10 HP at the rear wheels is nice, the sound Mike has produced from his system is amazing! Perma-grin with a rumble!

As other members have stated in other posts, if you have run low octane fuel, the computer over time will revert back or stay in the low octane spark tables, if you then use high octane fuel, you may not notice a power increase, because the computer needs to learn that you are using higher octane fuel and new driving habits if they have changed. So as been stated, it is recommended to pull the PCM fuses from the fuse box for 10 minutes, so that the PCM will be cleared and ready to relearn when you start driving again. Remember the '03's & '04's have 2 PCM fuses as stated above. Have high octane gas in the tank and go out and drive the SSR, do some quick hole-shots off the line, hit passing gear, run the speed up when safe conditions permit you to do so, this will then teach the computer new driving habits and switch to the high octane spark tables, which will produce more power as time goes on. With each driving cylce that you go through and some spirited driving, you will notice an increase in power. I never thought I would light up the tires on the '03 without a gear or torque converter change, I was wrong.

PS I'll probably need new rear tires sooner that I thought........................

As stated right above this.

The adaptive memory will tailor the tune based off the fuel that is used by detecting Knock Retard, Alcohol Level in Fuel, Elevation, O2 Readings and Driving Habits. It will go down into the low octane tables and stay there until you clear the adaptive memory and start the 25 or so start-up cycles again. When it starts the learn it can take up to 25 complete cycles, a cycle is from cold to operating temp and then back to cold. Make sure to spend a little more on gas and enjoy the ride.

You aren't the first one to spend more money because of me...
The only reason I'm not spending more money right now is because I don't have any. I keep saying that I'll be buying stuff when I sell my house in Virginia Beach...but the darn renters keep asking if they can stay longer (well they are friends of mine...so I let them).

I'm going to have to find a 0-60mph road and break out my accelerometer again, do a couple of runs "as-is" then fill the tank up with premium, pull the fuses and see what happens.....oh I guess it won't be free power because I'll have to buy premium gas now....now that I think about it, maybe this is why the Predator programmer didn't show much of an improvement...I didn't pull the fuses....hmmm.

Yes, it will still make a difference because you are clearing the Adaptive Memory. If you received a bad tank of gas or regularly run low grade fuel then it is in the low octane tables which can be as much as 4 degrees less timing.

SCT vs Superchips!!!

Remember these are two different companies, SCT is big in Ford with excellent results and now doing GM vehicles. SuperChips has also been around and this is the programer I used in my '04 GTO, along with other minor mods, it was great.
On the street, could not come off the line with the TC in the off position, it was wild. And I never thought to pull the fuse on the GTO, I really had no need to. But then I always ran 93 octane in the GTO from day one.
But as stated right above, I agree that you will also notice a difference with the fuses and just use high octane fuel.
When you really think about it, you are not really saving any money using low octane fuel, even though it is less expensive, and I know what gas prices having been doing lately, but think over the long run of using low octane gas, poor performance maybe even a decrease in fuel mileage, detonation and the damage that occurs from that would be more costly than the fuel savings you may realize now from using lower octane gas than higher octane gas.
Something to think about....................
