I have a few questions that pertain to the first few tasks that I will do to my rig.
1. Removal of the in-dash cup holder.
I know that there has to be a "magical spot" to realease the whole unit from the dash. I would like to know where this release point is before I brake anything, seeings how it's all made out of plastic
2. Replacement muffler.
For now, I just want to replace the stock muffler, I know it's packed with whatever insde. I want relieve some of that unwanted back presure and let the little engine breathe a weeee bit better. Flowmaster or Magnaflow or ? Also the appropriate part numbers.
3. Hood strut kit.
I see there is a kit made for my '04 by Mike out of Arizona. I would like to know has anyone installed one? How's the quality of the kit and it's fit? Does anyone have ANY picture of the kit? I would like to get a gander at one before I buy a kit. Lastly, does anyone have ANY pictures of the kit installed?
I want to thank everyone for their help on my list of things to do first. The more I cruz around this forum the more I like it, and it's members willingness to help each other out. No matter how big or small the propblem may be. Most excellent!!
My SSR: 2004 UV with flames #10443 (BOD: 05-24-04), 2005 "Sinister SSR"#19055 (BOD: 12-09-04)
We put a set of Flowmaster 40s on our 2004, sound great. Also had a true dual exhaust fabbed up with 5" tips (cost under $1000 to do). You can buy several nice cat-back systems - Mike in Arizona's sounds great. Haven't installed Mike's struts, but we have installed several other of his products for several Fanatics and everything is first rate, each kit totally planned out with detailed instructions.
My SSR: '03 #01155 Painted stripes, Flomaster, K&N air system, Port/polished Throttle Body, Custom Tuned
I love my Flowmaster 40.
I installed the hood struts from Mike in AZ.
He sent me a PDF of instruction which I printed out.
I had to buy myself a pop-rivet gun (not expensive) but that, & a drill and a wrench is about all you will need.
Very easy install. If I can do it...most anyone can.

For the cup holder there is a small release on each side which lets the whole unit slide out.
If the holder is binding... try going in through the ashtray area. There is metal fingers that if bent down will cause it to bind. Bend them up and away and no more binding.

A Flowmaster it is then! Thanks Flying Dog and vettegirl for your answers! I almost forgot to ask, how loud is the Flowmaster 40? Is it quiet at low RPM's and then gets loud when you have your foot in it? I'm not after a real loud muffler when I'm just driving around (low RPM's). Thanks Flying Dog on your instillation infoe on the strut kit, I'll be contacting Mike in Arizona
Linda thank you for your pictures! I love to look at pictures just as much as the next guy. Also thank you for your help! GetBusyLiving thanks for the heads up on how to take out the cup holder The holder is to small to hold anything and it's on the weak side, besides they way I see it is like this..... If I don't drink in my ride neither will the passenger. In all honesty I'm going to install another coin holder on that side. Thanks for all your imput and answers
My SSR: Pearl over UV tu-tone - "PurLple" w/ custom billet rallye wheels/baby moons & wide whitewalls, 4:56s
wow, Jerseymilk didn't comment on the muffler
here's some pic's of the hood struts install. The last moments of that dangerous prop rod, pucker up and drill, always draws a crowd, Mike and Tony showing off a job well done
p.s. Oh Dave, there's the running boards in picture #3

I'm liking the Flowmaster 50 just because I bought my SSR for a cruzer! When I take my Baby Doll out that's the last thing she wants to do is yell at me when she is sitting right next to me. Heck I have other cars for her to do that in, and when she does. I turn with a big smile on my face and say: "What did you say babe? .... I can't hear you"
Thanks DOOPHUS you bet, no eating, no drinking, and NO SMOKING that's what pit stops are all about, and when pits stops are taking place there is NO LEANING on the ride either
My SSR: 04,Straighr duals,3G spoiler,4.56,K & N Cold Air Kit,General UHP
I loved the growl of the Flowmaster 40, but the drone at highway speed was unbearable. Go for the 50 or Magnaflow.
Get the struts, if you get under the hood very much, its going to fall on your head otherwise

Thank you everyone for your imput on a muffler upgrade
My interest have gone else where for the time being on my rig. I'm leaning to the Flowmaster 50. Next week I'll be at home, so I'm going to install my carpet kit and take the console out and replace the right side so I can install a '06 cup holder on that side. Install the coin holder inplace of the in dash cup holder and lastley, install the console gauge package. That will do it for my first batch of parts that I have collected to be installed.
I have been doing alot of reading all over the forum. It's GREAT the infoe that I'm learning about my rig from EVERYONE I was reading some where on the forum about someone using a 2oz bottle of protectent/conditioner for ALL of the rubber seals i.e. The top, doors/windows. I stumbled across it by going through a link and then another link and so on. I want to say Maui Mike was involved in the conversation with another menber telling him about the formentioned bottle . I remember the price was about $ 45.00? and I want to say it was made by Dupont, but I can not be a 100% sure.
When I was done reading about it, I hit the button and closed the link and then the other link and so on.... Then going to another topi, forgetting to write down the infoe can anyone help me out here?
