I need tips on repairing the plastic from a hard cargo bag

I bid on and won a pair of hard cargo bags on eBay last month. (no, not 1,000's of dollars - only $279.00)When Fedex delivered them they threw them over the fence and one broke at the back where the top inserts into it. Luckily Fedex refunded some of the $ but I'd like to try and repair it. I took it to my Chevy dealer body shop and they said the best they could do is superglue it, but didn't think it would be a good repair. Isn't there some new state-of-the-art product that could repair it? I know that hard plastic is slick but any ideas? Thanks in advance!

p.s. I bought the boxes from a great guy in Maine who builds race-snowmobiles!...told him about the fanatics and I believe he's been lookin' in..Hi Ron!

PVC Glue should do the trick. I know there is some new stuff that came out but I can't recall the name of it.

Try looking on the boxes themselvs for the triangle symbol that tells what kind of plastic it is then go to a hobby shop or if not available go to a hardware store and see what they have that will work for that type plastic. Good luck

Thanks Joel...I think I'm going to use only one anyway, they don't leave much room with both in there. I may try to repair it anyway but doubt I'll even use it.

After it's glued...you might want to sand and paint the boxes. Or glue, sand and a decal over the crack to cover up. Hobby shops sell a glue called "Zap A Gap". A form of crazy glue. It's suppose to stick to any surface. I think I would use a 5 minute Epoxy if it will stick to plastic. Rough up the surface lightly, clean with Alcohol...make sure it's dry...then apply the glue. Good Luck

Go check with a auto body repair shop or an upholstry shop. They helped me repair a broken console for an older corvette a few years ago.

Thanks for the idea about the "Zap a Gap". The guy at the dealership bodyshop said he'd try super glue, that a 2 part epoxy wouldn't stick. He also mentioned about the sanding alittle. The good part is it's on the backside and won't show anyway. "Zap a Gap" sounds like it will have more body to it than super glue which is liquidy. I will dry all the swampwater off before applying the glue!

Zap a Gap is suppose to stick to anything. Says it will adhere to greasy & oilly surfaces ( I don't believe that) I used it at work. I also use it to tip pool cues. But the big question is why do you always refer to SWAMPland & SWAMPwater. Do you think that I'll break down eventually and by a waterhole in Florida? I see what you're doing...YOU'RE GOOD

You passed the POST IT test. I would use the ZAP on it. It dries fast. Hold the pieces in place while the glues drying. Do the long crack first. Looks like it's repairable. Mail it to me ...I'll fix it for you. Shame the shipping is too $$$ cause I'm serious.

After the ZAP glue job dries...use some kind of epoxy or high tech glue on the inside seam for reinforcement.

You're such a sweetie to offer, if you were only closer... I'll try it and let you know how I do. Thanks again Frank!
