Hello,
How complicated is it to replace the ignition switch on a 2003 ssr?
I have had myine at the dealer for 2 weeks and they haven't fixed it yet. I toold them of the info I collected here (ign. switch, roof control module, pinched wires in the top) I explained about h=the switch but they didn't listen. I will get my truck back and replace the switch myself while waiting on the roof module not available until early Octber (what ever that means).
Any info would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
George
George,
It should take the dealer 30min or less to change the Ignition Switch. You could check auto yards for the roof module I now a shop in MI that has 25 or so SSR's bought from GM.
Jim

All,
Please keep in mind that all days your truck is in the shop for warrenty work extends your original warrenty by that number of days. Keep track of the days. They may come in handy.
My SSR: 2006 Slingshot Auto #23320 Final Production Run Build Date: 2-16-06
I went to the dealer with what I thought was a bad battery. Started raising hell after waiting 2 hours and they hadn't done anything. I followed my truck into the "customer not allowed" area and stood there and watched. When they figured out my battery was ok they started looking at the fuse box I said "do an RFI, wait I think that is a construction term... anyhow I got one guy to listen to me and the mechanic would not even acknowledge I existed. He was even more indignant when the other guy snuck off and used a computer to find out that there was a technical bulletin on the ignition switch. They replaced the switch and it cranked. The mechanic turned and walked off when I stuck my hand out and said thanks when they got it fixed.
Jerry Hamm Chevrolet is a great dealer but that mechanic is a peckerwood for sure!
Only time I didn't get a customer satisfaction survey from them after service work.

Hi, I have to replace my ignition switch and noticed your
comment. Could you please email me the instructions to gpeter99@tampabay.rr.com Thanks much, Gary
I get a lot of request for instructions on ignition switch changes, so what I would like to do is make a video of the installation and post it on you tube for everyone to see.
If there is anyone about 150 miles of Nashville that can tape and edit and then post on you tube let me know

Thanks to Bill's instructions, changed my ignition yesterday in a little over 30 minutes; probably half that now i have done once. Also glad for this site, knowing the sypmtoms of the problems kept me from freaking out sunday night when truck died and had to be brought home on flatbed; p/u the part yesterday @ local dealer and back on the road.

HRG,
please send me one too! I got the switch from our ol buddy SSSRTOY, about a month ago, just to have a standby. But like always, I haven't printed the install instructions. So... the switch is a good as a rock right now! budhorstmeyer@yahoo.com

Bud
