Instrument Guage Readings, Volts

I recently installed the center console instrument cluster. Easy install and it looks great. HOWEVER, the volt meter is running almost "red line" 15+ volts except for sometimes at idle when stopped the guage "snaps" back to 13+ volts. 2006 SSR. The guage is the 2005/2006 guage. Any comments?

Same here. I reported the same readings to the dealer and they said these were normal and within range.

Normal, run load for all the Electronics and analogue devices is pretty demanding.

It's only normal because GM doesn't want to fix it, IMO. Dealer replaced mine and it is the same. There has been lots of threads on this and If you really want it fixed; PM me and I'll send you the EMail address of a electrical tech who will recalibrate your guage for you.

You are reading a voltage from the front of the the battery, it is a long way back too the Battery its self. The Voltage Drop back thru the large Cables that attach to the Battery is within range. If you want to test this just hook your hand held volt meter on the Battery terminals, under your SSR's Bed. You should read 13.8 too 14 Volts if it is in a Charging mode. Which it normally is, since the headlights are always on.

Maybe yes, maybe no

It sounds like a lot of owners are seeing the voltmeter pegged, and a lot of dealers are telling them 'they all do that'.

A number of us have had the voltmeter replaced, under warranty, and the problem went away. Some history - Volt Meter - Chevy SSR Forum
