Well today I dropped off at chevy dealer as I have after market warranty and the cluster replacement Is covered except for $100 deductible.
Customer service said they are going to try to get it replaced for free but then realized I had a warranty. They said they would see if they can get the deductible waived as that is even cheaper than the whole repair for free.
2 dealers and Chevy customer service all said the new cluster will have my mileage on it. I guess if I get it back with all zeros I will have to go ballistic in the service drive.
I have heard it 2 ways-- one way is that when they order the cluster they include my current miles and the cluster is programmed and shipped. Gm customer service said that a computer holds the number and the cluster is just a DATA display.
I guess we will see. Also getting a tranny flush and fill with the synthetic Dex 6. $160 supposed give better shifting and keep tranny temps down.
anybody else flush and fill with SYNTHETIC????
I will follow up with how it all went....

Interesting question, Truckie . . .
Is the Odometer even involved with a speedometer replacement. I ask this because the local Chevy Dealer replaced Doophus's speedometer about a year ago and all of the DIC information, including the odometer reading, never changed.

I was told that they don't fix the servo motors they replace the entire cluster pod which I believe includes the DIC

You can relax. None of the information is in the Cluster. It is stored in your computer. Your mileage, etc. will be all there.
I had New Cluster replaced under warranty several years ago. My NEW cluster does not have "Sweep" step motors.
I just changed some step motors for Copacetic Kid, Kris. Took cluster out, unsoldered old step motors and put in NEW ones. Lonnie calibrated the speed and all is well.

I believe you are correct that dealers do not even attempt to fix the servo motors, they merely replace the entire cluster but I do not believe that involves the DIC.
In my case about a year ago, after the entire cluster was replaced, all of the information and settings in the DIC were exactly as before.
Just an FYI . . . I would definitely accept the information from Dicktator over any and all of the BS from dealer service reps. He's smarter than all those guys put together.

The dealer is only paid to change part, not to evaluate and fix anything.
Look to the left of the tach and the right of the fuel gage in Dicktator's pic number 2. Those 2 black plugs need to transfer to the new cluster. If not, light will shine through.

The face has 3 black plugs... See my new yellow face for locations... Notice the one in speedo right of 140 MPH...
The yellow face makes it easier for you to see them...
