Jim G's custom dashtop accessory instrument panel & guages
Here is my new accessory instrument panel that currently holds my vacuum/boost and fuel gauges, and will also hold my air/fuel ratio gauge once it comes off backorder.
These are Auto Meter's new "Nexus" line of guages, which are bus power and signal fed by ONE bus cable that daisy chains to as many gauges as you install. These are computerized stepper motor, are driven by physical sensors remotely mounted under the hood wherever required, and receive their signal and power from a "black box" mounted behind the glove compartment.
The gauges are controlled by a computerized tethered remote (visible in some of the photos), which can change their display colors, cause them to datalog to an SC memory card (inside a slot in the remote), change their individual high / low alarm points, dim them in steps, and put them into a "demo mode" for car shows. The gauges individually go entirely RED (full face goes red) if a preset high or low value is exceeded. They are exceptionally accurate.
There is software that downloads the data from the SD card, and displays it for viewing or further processing.
The gauge mount nacelle was custom made. It is secured by pushpins and a hook, so that it can be easily removed for gauge repairs or substitutions. Its upholstery is virtually a perfect match for the SSR dashboard, including both color and texture.
It is really hard to take halfway decent photos in Texas sunlight with a black dasboard and black vehicle, but I tried.
I tried to show several of the gauge's different available display colors, but the combination of Texas sun, gauge lighting, interior and texerior shots, digital camera, and lousy photographer (me) produced crappy results compared to the reality. Those of you who are local in Austin can stop by and see them live, where they are much more impressive.
