You might want to check with your buddies at 5150.
Speaking of 5150, I see they're not list under Supporting Vendors. What happened?
Thanks for link, I'll check it out. I have a call in to Scott at 5150 as we speak.
I asked Scott @ 5150 about the supporting vendor status, he said they got about 6 hits per month, which is a lot lower than their advertising in bike mags (150+ hits per month) so they let it go. Business is business.....
I had them chromed by Custom Coatings in Florida. Believe me when I say they're not cheap - cost was about $ 250 per bar nine months ago, and it took three months. Quality is very good, but you have to deal with the fact that they lose flexibility....
A couple pics of my installation methods.....3M heavy duty moulding tape installed with a high tech heat gun (my color coordinated blow dryer Thumper donated to my garage) and inflated tires to hold each bar down over night - they don't slide.
An update for those of you that install Kaminari grill bars -
Don't bother with the double sided tape, they will come loose.
Use RTV sealer and apply pressure like I did with the tires against the bars, one at a time, for a couple days per bar. That worked really well.
If you have them chromed, you MUST trim the excess chrome from the back of them. I sealed the edges with nail polish sealer - I'm sure there are better products out there to do this stage of the install. The main thing is, you don't want the back edges of the chrome to peel, so you must seal the edges.
Art (hdflstf) had another set of Kaminari bars chromed for me a few months back, and I'm getting ready to install them on Cowbell. I'll post pics as they are available.
You may not have to touch the chrome if you use the proper RTV primer first.
When you chrome the grill bars, the back side has loose chrome that bubbles, or wrinkles. I also used RTV primer, but it won't help if you don't trim the excess chrome from the back side.
