Leaking wheel

I had a slow air leak on one of my front wheels (chrome version). Kept losing air and thought I had a nail in the tire. Took it to Discount Tire about six months ago and they found there was a tiny leak between the tire bead and the rim.
They broke the tire down and applied sealer around the edge.
That took care of the problem for about two months but it started losing air again.
I finally got tired of putting air in once a week so I had a mobile wheel repair service (Rim Fix) come by work today and hopefully they have fixed the problem. They usually fix curb rash and bent rims but in my case they took the tire off and checked to see what was causing the leak.
Apparently on the chrome wheels the plating on the inside of the rim where it seals against the tire sometimes starts to separate and air leaks out around the plating. They took a wire wheel and buffed off the plating, hopefully eliminating the problem.
Time will tell.

I do have GMPP but I don't think it covers the wheels. If it starts to leak again I will check it out.
Thanks for the heads-up.

If it continues to be a problem then silicon will fix it for good. Break the tire off the side of the rim that is the problem, run a pencil sized bead of clear kitchen and bath silicon around the bead and reseat the tire.

Excess will squeeze out of course. Let it set for a day and then just run razor around the perimeter of the rim and it will peel off like a snake.

I have used this method for years on many troublesome rims. I come from 'salt' country and winter salt and sand are perinial problems in relation to chrome rims.

This flat works every time, better than Bead Sealer which I do keep around the shop but doesn't work as well in this particular application.
