magnaflow muffler

Has anyone had the stock muffler (only) cut off and leave everything stock except for welding a magnaflow ss muffler back in place of the stock muffler????

Great thread as I'm having the exact same thing done Friday. The shop will do it in such a way that I can reverse the process if I'm not happy.

14" Magnaflow

I had the 14" Magnaflow single in/dual out installed. Fortunately the shop used the 3" stainless clamps to install. It had a a lot of drone, especially in the passenger seat (the muffler is directly below the passenger seat). My wife refused to ride in the truck. Took it off, and reinstalled the stock.

I would suggest that you ride in an SSR that has the muffler that you are thinking about installing.

I've done it to an 05 and my current 04. Saves lots of $$ and still gives you a nice tone. I didn't have it welded on, I cut the old one off in the garage and installed stainless band clamps. Works great. Magnaflow is one muffler I have always enjoyed hearing, not too loud and not too soft.

Good luck

I did this mod last year and have been well pleased with it. Has a little more exhaust noise now, not really drone just more aggressive sound.

I had the dual in/out magna flow installed and love it. It has an internal x pipe and has a nice tone. It has 3" ins/outs and is a big muffler. I also installed dual 3" high flow magna flow cats. You can hear a clip under m&m's exhaust thread.

I had a 50 series SS one put on my 04 last week. Sounds better than OEM but does not wake up the neighbors.

magnaflow is good

put one in two years ago, 3 inch in 2 -2and a half inch out. spliced into left tailpipe so i kinda have true duals from muffler back with mikes 5 inch tips, really added to the rumble, but you will have the droan at certain speeds.you can knock alot of the droan out at slower speeds by staying out of overdrive.

exhaust modifications.

guys I did something this past spring that I think solves everyone's need for a little rumble with the option of not having a little/lot of rumble when on long trips or traveling with momma'.
I purchased a low profile DMH all stainless steel electronic cutout. It is quiet enough at idle and light throttle that you can cruise past a standing police officer and he won't even glance your way.
Get into the injectors and it bloody barks or close the valve part way for as much bark as you want. It opens or closes in about 2+ seconds and it seals tight. 4 year warranty on it also. I wish I had discovered this product years ago if it was available.
Easy to install. Emery cloth a spot on the exhaust pipe just ahead of the muffler and slightly behind the cross over pipe. Then you weld the flange on with the 'supplied' block off plate in place, let it cool, remove the plate and open up the inside of the exhaust pipe with a drill bit and then a carbide burr or torch it out if you must.
Bolt on the motor/valve assemble. Wire it in (it is plug and play) and go have fun. I drilled a small hole just ahead and below the E brake handle in the consul. I can drop my fingers over the edge of the consul and very discreetly open or close the valve at will. I do it dozens of times a day some days. It is so fast and easy.
I don't have any pictures with me at the lake but it is the slickest thing to install and you don't have to put up with the drone when you don't want to. I am sold on these electronic cutouts and the oval low profile DMH unit just falls onto these R's. In a couple of weeks I could send a pic of the installed cut out but you will have no problem finding 'the spot'. I installed it with the motor just slightly over the cross member so it is better protected from flying debris which for me is gravel on rural roads. PM me for any additional info and no I am not selling these things if anyone is thinking that, just for the record.
