This morning I had to make my first long Highway run. Hit the Hwy and noticed that I had NO Info on the dash. Trip, Odo, Nothing just blank. I pushed all of the buttons on the steering wheel, Nada. 45 mile trip. When I started again for return trip all is well, the wave the welcome and all info at my fingertips. WHATS UP WITH THIS? THX. The famous ignition switch
Always seems to be the first thing to try. Replace the switch...It is amazing how many things seem to be affected by it. There are numerous posts if you do a search on this site .... good luck!

OK, is the switch a simple. It would never occur to me to search "replace ignition switch" Do all of you carry an extra and is it just plug and play? I will research later. Is this for real? If so I will buy one from you Dicktator. I am a F.Local. Just never heard of such a thing. I have owned Almost 100 cars and 200 motorcycles and Never changed an ignition switch. Thx. Rand

WELL, we have an SSR. No, they had lots of ignitons problems with several of their model, Silverado, Trail Blazer, etc.
The OEM switches will have a black cover, new, upgrades switch will have Grey cover.
It is about a 20 minute change. Need to walk you thru it though.
PM me with your address and I will send one to you.
Have also seen the "dead driver info center display" twice in the last year, the last time just last week. Both times it was on the '05 (never on the '03). Both times I just turned the truck off, took the key out, and restarted. DIC came back to life both times.
And yes, I carry a spare ignition switch and change instructions just in case.
My SSR: #23198 06 Blue 3SS #375 of 532 - Birthday 12/21/05 - Took delivery 9/5/06 (2nd owner)
I carry a spare ignition switch and have never had to use it. It is cheap insurance, though. The change is relatively simple but there are pitfalls so it helps to have someone with experience to help of at least lead you through it.

Thanks Folks, I have been in contact with The Dictator and He will help walk me thru the install. I decided to do the exchange in the comfort of my garage, then I will keep an extra and if I need to do this on the side of the road I will know what I am doing. Boy Scout / Be Prepared. And yes Cheap insurance. Ya All are Great. Randayn
That's a smart move, my lower cover didn't have the two screws, but I had a hell of a time getting it apart the first time. After that no problem, but I'd have been really cursing and probably break it, if I'd been doing in the wild the first time.

I have been driving with the top down for about a week. No display problem. Put the top up and the next time I start the car NO display. Put the top down and the display works again. I am changing the switch today. Randayn
