Smile Noise in HVAC

I have a 2005 SSR and have read the posts on "Noise in HVAC", some people replied with leaves in blower. I believe this is probably my issue.

My question is where will I find the air intake for the HVAC. I know I can get to the blower itself from the passenger side behind the glove box, but was wondering if there is an easier way to get to it.

Someone stated ,"cleaning out the trap by the firewallin the engine compartment", although I have looked and do not see it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ron

Noise

What Does The Noise Sound Like?
There Is A Thread That Details The Problem And The Fix With The Ac.
You Should Be Able To Find It By Searching On Hvac.
Mine Was Making A Noise They Tried The Adjustment, But That Didn't Fix It And They Had To Replace The Actuator?

Noise in HVAC

Jack,

The noise sounds like a leaf or the stem of a leaf is just touching enough of the blowers blade to tap.

What I was hoping to find out, was where the leaf would have entered the system.

I don't wish to take the blower apart under the passenger dash, unless I have to.

the suction for hvac is on pass side cowl area but i found with mine that it would suck in leaves from around the drivers side wiper believe it or not.so i found a block of heavy duty black foam used to pack boxes and cut to fit the shape and a little oversized and stuffed it under the wiper between the plastic and have no problems in two years.if you find the kind of block i'm talking about just cut what you need and save the rest for when that piece may get hard and dry out and replace it with another piece

Thanks for the info.

I will see if that is where this stemmed from.

Make sure that foam is (a) closed foam versus open (i.e. won't hold water) AND (b) does not contact anything metal. If it contacts metal and gets wet, it will keep moisture on the metal which will corrode the metal eventually.

This is why crevices on cars and trucks are the first common places for rust to start. The water gets in, gets HELD there by obstructing material that prevents runoff or evaporation, and rusts the metal around it.

Of course, SSRs have so much PLASTIC . . .

Jim,

Thanks for the advise on the foam, just ordered the service manuals so I will have them on hand. I Found the service manuals through a Post from "Mike in AZ".

Took a look under the wipers, I did find some leaves, looks like I will have to take the blower out after all.

Thanks again for the info.

HAVC Noise

There is a good possiblity that noise that sounds like the stem of a leaf hitting the blades is in fact a flat place on the rotor in the blower motor or a bearing. If so it will require replacement of blower motor.

I kept hearing a blower noise myself. Thought it was the fan going bad.

When I removed the blower motor, the motor and housing had about 30-40 oak tree leaves in it. Cleaned it out and quiet as can be.

Only wish I had done it 6 months ago..

Taking the blower motor out, 15 minutes. Result, Priceless!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

For everything else there is Visa.. :-)

Those leave are of course also a prime contributor to internal corrosion of the heater core, which ultimately gets a lot of dirty engine coolant onto the floor of a vehicle.

Good preventative action on your part.
