Noisy A/C Compressor

Our '03 SSR has 7400 miles and the A/C seems to be developing sort of a slight "clatter" or knock. Has anyone had any experience with this? Are the units just a little noisy or is the unit going bad? Any danger of "lock-up".

The car has never been in the shop and I would hate to have to get the dealer to dig down into the guts under the hood to fix it.

Dick, Does the noise stay constant with each fan speed, or does it go away? Is it louder on 2?
If it is louder on 2, than there is a TSB on this issue.

Is it the A/C or the just the fan. There is a known problem with fan position 2 in the earlier SSRs. If it's really noisy, I'd consider getting it fixed (if under warranty), but it does involve taking the dash apart, etc.....
Mine was replaced and it was better for a while.

Noisy A/C Compressor - Follow up

Thanks for the replies -

Sorry for the poor description. The noise does NOT come from the fan. You can hear it when the compressor cycles on, regardless of fan switch setting.
