Oil Light On, What's Wrong

Oil level is good. 15k miles, recent oil change about 500 miles ago.

The light with a wrench and oil container is on.

What can be wrong? Anything else to check?

Thanks!

When you look at your oil life in the DIC what is it? If near 0 % then you'll need to reset it.

the oil life tells you on the DIC, as well as reminding you that it's time for a change. For the wrench and oil container to come on, that's a different matter. Might be something with the sending unit/internal. Get it checked out at the dealership.

reset

wrench and container light is connected to the DIC. resetting it ended up fixing the problem. i forgot we had a life expectancy.

you would think that it's an oil level, pressure or quality issue. a MAINT REQ light would be better.

thanks!

Good news, Cack . . . that would have scared me also!

However, don't give them any ideas . . . there's enough little icons, lights and chimes already!

Here in Texas they have public service announcemts on TV addressing this issue

They advise that if your check engine light comes on it likely means you should take the vehicle to a mechanic soon ,but do not pull to the side of the road as this may cause an accident. They go on to say it could be a minor problem with the pollution control or even a loose gas cap.I remember in the old days when the dummy lights came on they ment something.
