My 05 dash info center tells me when its ice possible in cold weather, but I can't find where there is a outside temp reading. How can it tell its below freezing but not the outside temp. Also do any of these have a compass
The sensor for the temperature is in front of the radiator, just below the upper crossmember. The 2005 had an optional gauge package with an outside temp indicator in place of the tranny temp indicator in the '04.... not accurate, but looked cool. The 2006 has the temp readout in the DIC.
GM wanted a compass in the mirror, but elected NOT to do it. They found that the magnetic field change from top up to top down confused the electronics in the mirror too much and they dropped the idea.
Regards,
Mike

I spoke with Dakota digital and they can provide gauges for the pod, but they are not plug/play and there is no torque gauge, but they offer optioanl gauges like a compass/clock or oil pressure/temp, or transmission temp....
You have to run cabling/wiring for each gauge however. They do not seem interested in coming up with a plug/play option, cannot blame them if there is not enough interest.

Not on the 04 anyway.
You will have to wire separately for the outside temp.
I looked at that when I had the 05 gages, didn't want the work of wiring.

Dick, now come on! You have been in and out of your R (at least from the posts I read) more than most. A little wiring job surely is not a big deal for you. Your expertise on the workings of the truck (along with some others) is nothing short of phenomenal. I for one have appreciated your advice on more than one occasion. On my project I think the only real wiring work will probably be the outside temp.....finding a place to put the sensor so the reading is somewhat accurate.

Thanks for the compliments but as Clint Eastwood said "A Man needs to know his limitations" and wiring is one of mine.
Yes, I wire Muth Mirrors and do some simple stuff and maybe this is real simple and would have to be for me.
This is one heck of a Temp sensor with this Gage. + or - one degree from -77 to + 150. Thats un-heard of. Most RTD's are pretty good (Resistance to Temperature Device) But the Span is pretty big for there to be only two degree inaccuracy. But its not impossible.

Teltek gauges ...good stuff & Made in USA, I have bought from Teltek for almost 20 years, good people.

Calibration is the secret to getting a 1 to 5 volt Analog Signal to read accurately. The zero and span is huge on this gage. But if you have good Calibration Tools like I have. It would be a fun challenge. The problem is most Ice baths are considered, 32 degrees F or Zero C. So simulating -77 would take some pretty accurate calculations. Still it would be fun to play with.

I remember some conversations about a "guage pod" that would mount on the drivers side pillar. This would be a good place for a stand alone temp guage etc. Did anyone ever find a good pod?
