I like the idea. But. Consider doing that to set of Satin wheels. Save your Chromies.
Thinking of same thing but would not use chrome, it would cost almost double to power coat chrome as I was told before you can power cost chrome you have to strip off the chrome first.

Has this been done ? I have chrome rims and was thinking about powder coating just the spokes... Any pictures or ideas would be nice....
Take a look at my gallery in the photo with the top down you can see how I finished the back of my rims in yellow. Someone on the forum finished the whole wheel yellow but I don't remember who I think there may be a picture of that in the gallery too

One thing you might want to do when you put color in the backs of your rims is to paint the brake calipers. I just posted a photo into my gallery showing how I painted mine yellow and the brackets black with the epoxy paint kits.

Basically yes, to your question.
Gave only the rim to the Powder coater. They stripped the silver paint from the inside the wheel, then coated the rim, baked it, and gave it back to me. They also stripped the silver paint from inside the five spokes so they now has a bright shiny surface throughout the spokes.
From there had to remount the tire, rebalance, etc. Now they are sure easy to keep clean though.

I took this photo last year at a car show in Hill City, SD. I don't know if the rims were painted or powder-coated as I never got to talk to the owner.

I had my stock satin wheels powder coated black. The wheel weights were removed and wheels stripped, then powder coated black. Gives my silver truck a different look. I am going to have the main grille bar and part of the rear bumper cover painted black also. Sorry, I don't have any pictures to post. If I add a spoiler, I think I will paint it black also. The powder coated wheels are much easier to clean than the stock satin wheels were.
