Project LS2

Teardown has begun.

First order of business is to find the secondary cause of the low oil pressure.

Should be plenty of fun

My guess would be main bearing damage or very excessive wear of same. I'm envious, as I'm dying to build a new bullet for mine, but the finances aren't there right now. Of course, you might not be relishing the experience all that much?? Good Luck with it! Oh yeah, did you ever install the LS7 clutch, or is it going in now?

It one thing when it's planned, yet quite another when unplanned..

LS7 clutch will go in with the new build.

I hear you. I've already been in part way, twice. Not doing that a third time.

It's already fighting back. Trying to remove the valley cover and have destroyed two allen wrenches and the heads of 3 screws. Time to get out the drill....

Finally got a little more time on it. Had to drill and easy out 4 of the valley cover screws - fun fun.

Anyhow, cover is off and the o-rings are in place as they should be.

Don't forget to have a spare box handy for all the left over parts that you will have, when you dont know where they go when you put it back togeather.

Since they came out with an easy-out, do you think the screw heads were the problem?

100 degree head and the small size of the hex is a recipe for what happened. Need to find some torx instead.

Looks like I'm in for a cam and lifters for starters. Well, at least I don't need to worry about keeping the lifters matched to the correct cam lobes

Nope. If it's in the top end, it's in the bottom as well.....

Time for a stroker build.....

No need to worry about matching lifters and lobes, like in the old flat tappet days. In fact, it's not a bad idea to rotate the front and back lifters, if reusing, to equalize the wear, as the fronts tend to get shortchanged when it comes to oiling. Concerning oiling, I'm not sure how hard you lean on your ride, but increased capacity is always a good thing with these engines. A couple extra quarts is a real nice cushion!
