Work has been keeping me too busy. I think I have most of gameplan figured out though. Eng block is completely stripped down. Trans is out, drained, and all cleaned up ready to go back in.
You will have to line Bore the Crank Journals if you keep this Block. That baby sure spun some Bearings didn't she.
Actually found a little time to work on a mockup for fit checks.
1) Corvette oil pan to header clearance. I'll be making a flat plate and recessing the internal passage like Topspin has done. Maybe some button head screws for more clearance too.
2) Starter head shield is right on the tube. Needless to say, something will need to be done here too.
Headers installed with no gaskets so clearances are worst case for now.
4 progress pictures...
1) Oil pan oil passage is not ported to negate the need of the bolt-on adapter. Top center of picture is a hole that's not supposed to be there.

I saw that. But these New Headers may help this Hot Spot. But there again a Rough Surface will always overheat. Bad or rough Casting in a Head will Glow like a Diesel Glow Plug.

Engine comes out the top. Disassembled it in place and manhandled the bare block out. Will use an engine hoist to put the short block in and finish the assembly in place.
