Prototype Air Box For 03-04

OK I have the prototype box for the custom air filter. The tape is still on the stainless steel and I have not put the rivits in yet. I found the correct size filter and ordered it today. Sorry subdriver I had to go with a K & N to make it fit right. When I get the filter I will size and locate the back hole that will fit tightly to the neck of the filter to lower the amount of hot engine air being drawn in. There is also a bottom plate not shown that will roll up in the back to help scoop the air in to the filter area. I need the filter in place to cut it correctly. The box is sized so it almost touches the hood insulation with the hood down. This will only leave the sides that I have extended forward to possibly draw on the hot engine air. Give me a few more days and I will post another update. My plan is to paint the inside of the box flat black to match the front plastic cover that will be reused but I may change my mind. I may also put a black foam strip on the top to seal even better to the hood. The hose support came out great.

subman576: I am thinking you might want to seal the top and sides against the hood via foam, similar to the 05/06 factory setup. Inexpensive to do, and buys you a lot in terms of preventing leakage of hot air into the intake. Just a thought.

Yes I want to keep the engine air out as much a possible but still keep it looking nice under the hood.

Is this substantially different that the K&N induction kit. Looks a lot like it, except there's not as many holes in it.

It is along the same idea but the intent is to reduce the amount of hot engine air being drawn in and to give it a little forced induction while using a performance filter.
