Re: Alternate Rear Tire Size Questions

Hi Everyone,
I need to put 2 Snow Tires on the Rear of the SSR and need to know what options I may have with tire sizes that will maintain my ride height, as I have stock wheels. There may also be a slight possibility that I could get a pair of 18 wheels from a Tahoe, or Rainier, or Envoy. Also do any of you have any tire suggestions as per brand and type.
I am in the Northeast and the last couple of winter have been tough. Price is an issue so any suggestions that can provide the best solution for the price is also welcome. Please don't berate me for having to use it in the Winter, some of us have no choice.

Best Regards,

I have Bridgestone Blizzak 275/45 -20's winters for the rear.
I am not really good on the arithmetic of tire sizes but I am told that this is very close to the originals.
Hope this helps. By the way I am fortunate that I don't have to run mine in the winter - I just use them for storing the vehicle.

Me too

This is the same size as a Suburban with 20's. They are 1/2 inch narrower than the 295/40/20 and fit the 10" rim just fine.
I been running that size for over a year.
BONUS: they cost about 1/3 as much.

I have mounted deep tread snows, 275/55-20 on stock rear SSR wheels...they just fit...very tight fit. For the front, 255/50-19 on stock SSR wheels. These are NOKIAN tires from Finland.....Menzel Engineering

I've been running Hankook, Ventus ST tires, as they are as close to a snow tire that I could find that was CHEAP.. they do work good in snow. Size is 295/45-20. Several friends with Corvette's are running them in the snow also here in Elko NV and find they work out good.. They are way cheaper than Blizak and Paralli (spelling, sorry) and seem to wear like iron and provide good traction.. I only run the ugly things in the winter, then I'm back to good looking tires in the summer.
