Doophus Method: This sounds like my kind of spare. Read someplace on wheel size, number of lugs and spare tire size. Something about a size that will work on both front and read. Can Doophus help me????

Standard wheel for Trailblazer / Envoy..... 17" wheel with a 235-65-17 tire is a perfect match.... slightly shorter (less tha 1/2") than the rears and just a little taller (less than 1") than the front. I have not checked the width of a 17" Colorado wheel, but think it is the same bolt pattern as well. Offset is not an issue.

Sure, Scheide . . . definitely not Rocket Science or I would have never been able to pull it off.
Via another Fanatic, I bought a used Original Front Satin Wheel including Tire (claimed about 10k miles on the tire) for 100 bucks including shipping. I added two vinyl covers (one from the bottom and the other from the top) for about 15 bucks each and pushed the entire mess towards the front of the bed. It does consume some space, however, the peace of mind is more valuable than the space.
A number of "experts" have confirmed the Front Wheel will perform on the Rear without problems for a limited period. Thankfully, I've never needed to prove them either right or wrong so far.

You're right on target for my plans Chuck.... I'm headed to SEMA next week on a quest to find a rim for EXACTLY what you did. The Trailblazer wheel (17x7) leaves a lot of tire showing and feel strongly that it needs to be hidden.
What makes the hitch un-useable????

Hey Mike
You say trailblazer 17x7 is about 1/2 inch shorter than the OEM rear.
Wont 1/2 inch still affect positraction gears????
I am not interested in undermount will carry in the rear.

I had my SSR about five months and with brand new OEM tires had a blowout. I had to walk a half mile up a hill to get Cell reception to call GM. It took the guy on the Roadside Assistance 20 minutes just to figure out where in Missouri I was. He then sent a tow truck out in about an hour and they had to tow it to a Chevy dealer. It took 3 days to get a new tire sent to the dealer. The good things were that it was still warm in MO., it was daylight, They did not charge me for the tow and the dealer didn't hijack me for storage or on the cost of dismounting and mounting the spare(and the wheel and tire had to be sent to a tire place to mounted and balanced). Just today i got my spare tire and wheel cause it could have been a lot worse. Got an Envoy aluminum 18 x 8 wheel $60 and a Pirelli 255/55r/18 tire $35 which I'll put in the bed until Spring and then maybe attempt an under bed location. This tire/wheel combo is 1/4" diameter smaller than the rear and 1" larger than front. I'll give it a good work out on the front when the weather isn't below zero like it is today to be sure there's NO clearance issues on curves and bumps on the front and the 1/4 inch on the back is no issue. It works for me>
