Removing engine

What is the best way to remove engine and transmission. I have a frame lift will it come out the bottom?

Ssr Engine Removal

I didn't see too much exciting when I searched "engine removal". You gain a little info from this thread.
Topspin takes his out once a year or so for the fun of it. He should be dropping in on this I imagine.

I forwarded this thread to Joe Delano (2002SSR6Speed) and Hank Wolf (wilddesertwolf), they both have extensive experience with engine swaps in SSR's.

If you separate the two, the trans can come out the bottom. The engine is too wide to clear the frame rails. At least to the best of my knowledge. Mine will be exiting the vehicle in the next couple of weeks..

You unhook the drivers side motormount from the block and the passenger side from the bottom off the frame bracket.

Fin, to your original question, it's not a cradle mounted assembly that can be dropped out.

That's funny $, but I was really close to pulling it last winter. I had the trans. and clutch out, the oil pan off, the crossmember removed, the motor mounts loose, the exhaust system including manifolds off, starter and knock sensors removed. I was laying under there on the creeper just wishing I had a new bullet for the chamber, as I was just a half hour away from having it out, if I had wanted to.

Hdf, did you find more damage - you're talking about pulling the engine now?!

Didn't realize it was a cradle mount. Guess I need a closer look..
Fixed the cause of the problem but there is apparently additional damage since the oil pressure still drops off when warmed up. So I intend to go through the whole thing instead of part way again.

Hdf, you're reading me wrong, I'm saying we do not have a cradle mounted engine that can be dropped out of the engine bay. You gave him accurate info in your post, I was just reinforcing it.
Sounds like main bearing damage if the hot oil pressure is fading, but didn't you say there were no bearing flakes evident? Strange??

Ok. I get what you're saying now..

I'll be starting a new thread on the build and adding to the oil pressure thread so we don't hijack this one too much.

Thanks for the replies, I will wait to see if Delano and Wolf reply. It looks like trans comes out first and the lift engine with a hoist?

It is an easy R&R with the way I stated above.
