Roof ajar problem

Hi im Mike from Sweden
I need some help with the car. When i parked the car yesterday, everything was fine. Next day i opened the lid and closed it again, and when i get into the car the Windows getdown one inch on each side. And everytime i try to opened the door the window went down one inch again?!

Then when i start the engine, the roof ajar comes up at the display!!
I have cheked the fuses, and the opener for the lid was ok. I dont have the tools for the roof, so i cant try that. I have disconect the battericable, and it didnt help. So i need some help with this, because the Windows are all the way down ( the temperature in Sweden is 35 f) so it Will be a little bit to cold to drive like this.

I hope to get some help on this one!

Mike

Roof Latch in the Roof Compartment, would be where I would go first. Switch is bad or dirty, sticking, can be cleaned or replaced. DW40 works or Contact cleaner.

Dicktator

1. Latch located at the top on each side of roof compartment.
2. Remove the four bolts, 10mm, I believe. Slide latch out and turn over.
3. 03/04 looks like this. 10amp micro switch.
4. 05/06 looks like this, it is better sealed to the elements
5. Screw on back side of bracket, have to remove to get at switch.

Yes, remove sloted cover above rear veiw mirror. Insert tool, push up, turn to release.

May be able to use flat screw driver, make sure it fits the slots in the latch release.

Remember MUST PUSH UP before turning.

You may have bad latch, drivers side is control latch, none on other side.

I had mine go bad with same problem you discribe.

He doesn't have to get the top down to check the switches, just get the cover open.

To get to the switches:

a firm short pull on the green marked cable behind each seat will release the switch (you probably will not feel or hear anything), then 2 persons must lift the roof cover to allow access inside the roof area.

If you are able to fix it, then great. If not, then lower cover and pull on the red marked cable behind each seat to lock the cover in place...here again you probably will not hear or feel anything.

I am an expert at this manual method from past experience.

Pull a little bit harder on the cables, you may have to try this a few times going back and forth between pulling cable and lifting cover. It will take two people to lift the cover, one on each side. Confirm the procedure in the owner's manual.

Push Down

If you are trying to unlock the latches while pulling up, it will be very difficult. Try having someone push down on the cover at the sides then pull the cables.

Just push top down button for a minute while the back cover pops up and then let go and you can access the compartment.

Read this
Power Folding Top Description and Operation

and read this...
Power Window Initialization

The window initialization procedure will need to be performed any time the battery is disconnected. the procedure allows the RDM to detect the top and bottom position of the window glass and to calculate actual window position in relation to the top and bottom. The RDM shall store these end positions once they have been detected when the window has reached the full up and full down positions. It is not possible to initialize the window if the door is open, because the window glass needs to seat in the weather-strip on the roof. If the door is open and the initialization is lost due to battery disconnect, the actual position of the glass after power is switched ON again will become the Zero-position, and if the RDM receives a door open status the glass shall index down.

To perform the window initialization procedure:

1. Close the vehicle doors.
2. Activate the window switch in the up position until the window has reached the full up position and stalls and hold the switch for an additional 0.5 seconds.
3. Activate the window switch in the down position until the window has reached the full down position and stalls and hold the switch for an additional 0.5 seconds.

Good, got top open, now let us know what you find.

Is the roof motor running to open roof??. Fond a relay on the roof motor bad on a roof that Lonnie and I were working on. That was the problem, roof motor was not running when you pressed the button to open or close.
