My SSR: 2004 Automatic, Slingshot Yellow, original owner, Car featured in "Chevy SS" hard cover book

I am the original owner of a 2004 SSR. Two years ago I took the car to our
local Chevy Dealer with an inoperable top. The ECM would read " Top Latch
Default" when depressing the retract button on the center console and nothing would happen. The Service Mgr said we need to replace the latches. They have been on back order for 2 years. I have just been informed by the Dealer as well as GM Customer Service that the parts are not available and will not be, as there are no vendors making parts for the SSR, and no plans to bring any on board. Needless to say this is a bit upsetting. I have downloaded the Roof Manual in the hopes of maybe figuring this out for myself and hopefully fixing it. The Dealers "technicians" are only able to plug
in "new parts" and are not able to really fix anything. Is there anybody out there with any suggestions ???

First off, welcome! Hope we can be of some help for you.
Have you tried another dealer?
I'm thinking maybe the wiring located on the right side of the toneau/roof cover hinges got pull and short out. It happened before with some members here.

If you tell us where you are located maybe someone is nearby and can take a look and shed some light on things. Some of our members have a lot of knowledge on certain subjects.

Some members have said that they had better luck at a Cadillac dealer than at their Chevy dealer as they were more familiar with drop tops.

I had a gremlin removed at the Caddy dealer 3 years ago. Techs were trained specifically for trouble shooting the drop top on the Cadillac but had me covered in no time. 5 days at Chevy, 3 hours at Cadillac. Just different training means and methods.
I got lucky the Service manager had visited LCC back in the day. I found the techs loved puzzles and liked the SSR a lot. I allowed them to take the R off lot for 14 miles. I still go by there for advice and looking at the Caddy hotrods. CTS-V coupe is coming. Over 525 hp.

I noticed this thread in "Articles In Review". It doesn't look like anything current that should be in this section but if it is being reviewed is anyone having luck viewing the download?
I came up with some totally unrelated site.

I heard there was a bad link on one of the posts. Guess this was it. Its been fixed and should work now.
It is still the old bad link in the quoted posts. I can't fix those.

I think you have some pretty neat stuff. This was one of them I think.
I'm getting real good at recognizing many of these ill designed mods and flame jobs!
Next Year I will be looking for a SSR Shot Rod; too Customize. 05-06 would be good but; a 03-04 cheapo would be fine as well. There was a Complete Rolling Chassis w/all running Gear for 9 K, a couple of years back. No Body.
But I should have bought that one to put under my 41 Ford.
Moving this thread to the SSR Technical Discussion Forum (vs. deleting it) so that Dingbat's link to the manual can be found in two places. Normally threads in Articles in Review are deleted once vetted.
