Got my soundproofing from STINGRAY CHEVROLET today and quickly istalled them.
Glad I went to Texas where the Tech guys showed us that you DO NOT have to remove the rear tire, remove wheel sheild and install.
Took all of ten minutes to do both.
I have a set for Roger/Sharptoys and Alex/Largo05ssr.
Dicktator
1. Part and Paint Tool for removeal of vent.
2. Vent showing flap to let air out and NOISE in.
3. Vent removed/metal outer wall
4. Showing soundproof and vent how they go together, after install. Soundproofing sticks to outer wall, then put back on.
5. Soundproof installed/then replace vent cover.

Dick Tator, I guess if you have an 05 or 06, your truck is already equipped with this sound proof upgrade? Sunnyside
If you're placing the "stick backed" side of these insulators directly to the (PRV) vent, this is not how the instructions say they should be applied and you may be blocking the venting.
According to the instructions these insulators are supposed to be applied "stick backed side" to the inner side of the fender, directly across from the PRV (vent).
Hey, if works OK for you that's great, and if you don't feel pressure when you close your doors (with the windows closed) then perhpas it doesn't make much difference.
My concern would be parking the truck outside on a hot day and having the windows rolled up.
Maybe someone else can chime in here if I'm wrong.
Condition Some customers may comment on road noise inside the vehicle at speeds of 48 km/h (30 mph) and higher.
Cause This condition may be caused by the pressure relief valve allowing noise to enter the cab.
Correction
Install a foam insulator in front of the left and right pressure relief valve following the procedure below.
Remove the rear wheel.
Remove the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Liner Panel Replacement-Rear (SI Document ID #1211364).
Clean the outer panel outward of the pressure relief valve.
Peel back the tape from the insulator and with the sticky side facing the outer panel, slide the insulator between the pressure relief valve and the outer panel and stick in place.
Install the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Liner Panel Replacement-Rear (SI Document ID #1211364).
Install the wheel.

NO, I didn't stick it to the vent, I only placed them together to demonstrate how they end up installed and why it works.
I cleaned the inside fender wall with cleaner and stuck it to the fender wall and then replaced the vent. In fact, if you look at the pictures you will see the soundproofing installed before the vent is back on.
We went for a ride and could not beleive the difference. Not sure if it is the door soundproofing or the vents. Maybe a combination of both but I tell you Gang, BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

Did you pry the vent out from inside the top storage compartment?

Great pictures. What is that loose wire on the right hand side. It appears to be wound around the other wires to keep it from wandering. It looks like an external antenna lead.
Dick, please excue my stupidity, for this moment, as I am away from my R and cannot look at it. That vent looks like a piece of metal spat welded to the body. Your description calls it a vent. I assume, then, that it is loose from the inside, right? Now then, you went to Corvette and purchased a plastic vent and installed it, right so far? Great pictures Dick.
I not sure what you are looking at. I can't find anything out of place.
Are you looking at the drop cord?

There is NO such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know, ask.
The vents are on ALL the "R" from the factory, to let air escape when you close the cover. But the vent has flaps that allow noise from the REAR tires to come IN, BIG time.
So, they had a warranty to put soundproofing behind the vents but most of us, if not all, are out of warranty. They did put soundproofing on all 06, at least that is what I understand.
I bought the soundproof material from Stingray Chevrolet and you can get it from Classic Chevy in Texas, Mike Byers. Classic ownes Stingray in Florida.
Material comes with sticky back tape. Use screwdriver or paint tool, as I did to remove vent cover, clean, apply material (sticky side to outside wall), replace vent. DONE!!
And that is THANKS to one of the Tech guys who discovered that you do not have to "Remove Rear Tire" to install. Can't thank him enough. Maybe he will post his name so we can all thank him for an easy fix.

Sharptoys thank you. You were a big help. Now I understand why it was needed. Glad to know it does not apply to me since I have an 06, but I still might check anyway.

Dicktator,
Thanks so much for your help with soundproofing my 05 R at your "garage".
There is so much of a noise reduction (and you know I can't hear very well) that I had to adjust the radio base/treble etc. controls cause of the difference the soundproofing makes. What did it take us... 10 minutes or less to do the vents...maybe an hour and twenty minutes to do the door panels (in the afternoon sun). More time was spent at the 19th hole then it took to do the work.
I would recommend that everyone add the soundproofing as it does make a huge difference...(not with the top down though!).
And you are a good DICKTATOR!

In pic #2 , Post #1. This really does Not show just how Thin the rubber "flap" he is holding. It was intended to be a rubber sheet "flapper valve" set-up. It was just made out of inadequate material to work as planned. The foam rubber stick on is an "after-thought" remedy for the puny engineering. It does work... just Fine, too. Those '03-05 (early '05) who have fat mat doors will now be hearing "road noise" coming from behind the seats, somewhere. This is where this application applies. It was always there, only, Now you can hear it.

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.
I am looking for some material that we can use to do the same thing. 4 x 6 peice of foam or sponge with silicone rubber caulk and the vent pressing against it will do the same thing and only cost about $4 bucks for two.

Leave only the roof cover open, exposing the inside compartment. Shut eveything off, remove the vents, put in soundproofing, replace vents, close cover. DONE!
It is easy, even I can do it.
