Running board help

My running boards have black scuff marks and it looks like the clear coat is off and sun fading although it's mainly in a garage. How can I get them to look better? That's the worst problem about an SSR. Thank you.

WELCOME, Alley . . . from Southern Arizona.

Check your local O'Reilley's, Auto Zone or Pep Boys.

There are a number of products that will restore the black on the rubber strips. I've used BACK TO BLACK and BLACK CHROME and a few others but I cannot remember their names right now. It'll take you more time to find them in the store than it will to apply the stuff.

Good Luck

Welcome from Sunny SoCal.

Two options:
Buy whatever over the counter temporary remedy such as Back to Black or 303 or whatever… Something you’ll almost need to spray or rub on after each car wash.

Or … remove the rubber, clean it up, maybe repaint the running boards to match your truck and have a Line-X sprayed on in place of the old faded rubber strips

Here a couple of threads that was posted just weeks ago … worth reading to give you an idea or two.

Repainted Running Boards and topped center stripes w Bedliner

FYI – Search tool on the upper right is very handy.
