You can manually disable the DRL each time you start the truck with a quick lift/release of the e-brake.
Not automatic like you are seeking but an immediate solution nonetheless.

Just an FYI, Juangoodude . . .

The "emergency brake cut-off" will deactivate the automatic on feature when it gets dark until you restart the R or repeat the handbrake thing.

Driving after dark with no headlights is a big no no is some areas.

The fuse panel behind your passenger seat open it up. You will see a fuse I believe it's fuse 13 it will say drl. Which means daytime running lights pull this fuse and there you go. Your lights will still come on when it gets dark and go off when it gets light

I turn them off by pulling up on the brake handle almost every time I start the truck, but occasionally I leave them on because I can't forget the thrill that I first got (and still get) every time that I see the hauler commercial. The three kids turn to look as, off in the distance, a yellow beast's headlights are barely visible. I still get goosebumps every time I see that.

P.S. Compared to some vehicles, changing the headlight bulbs on an SSR is a simple and easy process; which is another reason that I don't mind leaving them on sometimes.

I think it's a Law in Canada. You must have running lights. I know it is in my neck of the woods.

If you vehicle is built for Canada or even it is USA built and then brought into Canada you will still not be able to disable your DLRs it is the LAW!

Canadian vehicles don't have an option to turn them OFF only vehicles that are built for US use can be turned ON or OFF.

I like my running lights and keep them on but those dummies on the road with me still want to pull out in front of me at intersections.. WHAT the heck is going on!! Now I am looking for a big rig horn that will make them soil their panties when they make me slam on my brakes to avoid their stupidity.

Seriously ... How can you tell the running lights are on while you're behind the wheel buzzing along slightly over the speed limit while listen to your favorite music and enjoying being king of the road in a cool looking SSR.

As for undue wear on the battery, your alternator should be keeping it charge when crusin.
