Service Brake System warning

Hi all,

Can anyone shed some light on this message. Had to try to start the car twice this morning and after I got to work I thought I would turn off and turn on again to make sure all was okay. Had the "chimes" and then came up with warning for "Service Brake Ststem". The car has only done 10,00kms!!!

How serious is this???? Had new shockies installed on Friday - do you think they may have just knocked something to make this message come up???

Please help if you can.

Regards,

Mark

ABS Sensor

They most likely damaged an ABS sensor. Have them check to make sure they're intact.

Iwould have to agree with the others. Since you had some install shock (and I assume front struts to) They tech may ahve inadvertantly unplugged a connection for the ABS at the wheel area, or damaged a sensor. Have them look at it ASAP.

The problem has been fixed . It was something to do with the ignition barrel and what ever else is i the steering colum. The mechanic with the help of the service manual took it to pieces and reassembled it. Starts first time every time.At least I have the car home for the weekend, I paid a heap only for labour.thanks to all vavoom

No. Not the brake light but the driver info message,Service Brake System. At present all is fine, it should be $500.0 labour only, glad there were no parrts involved. The problem seemed to be with the ignition barrel and the wiring in the steering colum. Lets hope there is nothing else go wrong, very hard downunder with no trained techs on the SSR.I'mure glad I purchased a complete service manual. vavoom

The electrical portion of the ignition switch is subject to failure causing all sorts of electrical problems such as these. You may want to acquire a spare; they're inexpensive.

Based on the frequency with which these ignition switches fail, and the major problems they cause when they do so, I am starting to think that every SSR owner should carry a spare.

I have noticed also that the frequency of failure seems to be increasing now that the SSRs are all a few years old.

Fortunately, it appears that this same switch is used on other GM vehicles, so no "shortage" should result.
