Well,Last night after a meeting,I jumped into the LIL red thing, backed out of the parking space, shifted into drive and ....... nuthin. After several moments I deduced what the problem was.Crappy ball connector on the trans cable broke.
luckily,I was able to climb under in the dark and after burning my fingers a few times, selected a gear that could get me the 3 miles back home.
Today,I fixed the problem after reviewing Dicktators' remedy described on an old posting.Again I'm so thankful for this forum to have at my disposal. There is always someone who has been there and done that.I did modify the repair slightly however.I used a stainless 1 1/4"X20 pan head screw( a more flush look).Instead of cutting the barbs off a 1/4X20 T nut,I bought a stainless barbless T nut at Ace hardware.Everything else is the same except I used a piece of 3/8 od nylon tubing for the bushing. It has a 1/4" ID but presses nicely over the T nut shoulder and expands to fit the cable end perfectly.I did the job in less than an hour and saved $400.00 not having to deal with GM who still doesn't sell the replacement part. That little expantion bushing couldn't be worth more than $2.00.Oh well, like they say, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Thanks Dicktator!

You should have installed it. It is going to go sooner or later and then you could be parked in a difficult area to get at it or be a long way from home.............

Just sent 20 Shift Cable Repair Kits to Mike in AZ. He will have them for their Tech Day.
He is also putting them on his Web Site.
I have a Transmission Shop in Palm City, Fl ordering 20 at a time. Seems the cable is the same on Malibu, Impala, Blazer, Envoy and more. They just change them when cars come in for oil change. Customer is thrilled that they will not have to have their cars towed in.
$5.00 plus $2.00 mailing from me, lot cheaper that a tow.
Kinda like our OEM fan, not "IF" it will fail but "WHEN" it will fail.
DON'T carry the kit in your glove box, put it ON!!
Sitting side of the road or in a parking lot waiting for the tow truck because your shift cable repair kit is IN the glove box won't be fun.

1. OEM neoprene holding cable to shift are.
2. Neoprene about 3 or 4 inches from catalytic converter, dries out neoprene and it falls OFF.
3. I rather have this Shift Cable Repair Kit.

Just auto's my man. Six speed have to change WHOLE clutch assembly.
Six speeds have Camero, leisure clutch which is subject to failure. Pedal will stick to floor and you will smell smoke.
Annie, Waysouth6speed is on clutch number 5, I believe.
Do a Search. Lonnie, Sinister Kustoms has done many, many upgrades to the LS7, I think that is right, Corvette Clutch. Drop 40 pounds, single pressure plate, bleeder and more.
I have an 03 with just over 41K on it. I still have my original ignition switch, battery and door handles. Knock on wood. Hope they don't go out now that I have mentioned it. I have had to replace the fan with Mikes awesome fan, and had new stepper motors put in the instrument panel. I have the clicking noise up inside the dashboard because of the actuator door, and also have the service brake system issue because of the ABS module. So now it sounds like I might need to be concerned with the shifter cable on my automatic. Is this true? Where can I get a repair kit, how much, and how hard is it to replace?

I would do the Shift Cable Repair. Mileage doesn't seem to be the problem, more short runs, lots of shifting and SITTING in traffic. The heat from the catalytic converter is intense and only 3 or 4" away from the neoprene pin that holds your cable on. The heat dries out the neoprene and it crumbles and falls apart. Then, of course, cable falls off. CAN'T SHIFT!
Where can you get one?? Contact Mike Moro, he is closest to you. I sent him 20 Kits for the West Coast. They are $5.00 ea plus mailing.
Gerry, Drive down and we will install one for you at Dicktator Garage. Or I can send you one and Gary Medcalf, glmssr04, in Ocala can help you install.
