My sound system pooped out,(2004 Bose 6 C.D. in dash), and the dealer says $1350to replace-cannot repair. C.D.s go in and out. It shows that it is playing them by the track number. Radio shows the stations etc. but no sound. Fuses-Radio and Amp. are good. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?? I have looked at a few alternative units and I wonder how much that would effect the value of the SSR way down the road for collector value plus I wonder if anyone has had a different sound system installed and would recomend what might be a good one or which ones to stay away from. Would love to hear from any owners with knowledge or experiance on the subject. Thanks. johnolivier@telus.net

Have heard a few issues with similar units in other vehicles but it's not widespread. There are a few nice units on EBay for the $200-300 range. The only thing is that you will need to take it to the dealer to get it "married" to your vehicle but that should only be $50 or so.
i also have bose 6 cd unit, only mine plays only when it fels like it, other wise it operates fine. i had a gm tech friend of mine do a scan, showed internally a possible short, have checked everything else all is ok. i will be pulling the radio out soon and checking all connections at wiring harness, if thats not the problem then i will take to dealership and send it in to gm for repair. where did you get that high quote?

There are many shops that specialize in Bose automotive stereo repairs for $150-$300. GM does not repair them, the OP stated in his post that the dealer cannot repair his issue and I don't think they fix anything electronic. They trash your unit and get you a new one, thus the high cost. IMHO you would be MUCH better off shipping it to one of the many stereo repair shops that work with these units.
just got back factory car stereo repair inc, they are in long wood fla,two great guys removed my radio completely bench tested in found no problem with the radio suggested i clean all connectors ie. wiring harness and grounds, if that does not work then try having a dealer re flash so that everything matches, must recognize vin. went to pay up they would not take a dime they said we didnt fix any thing, so no charge, did i mention they are a bose authorized repair facility.
