Update: Took the wife's Mazda CX-7 to dealer for check engine light and they are also my SSR dealer. While talking to the service manager, he asked how I liked my SSR. I responded that I wasn't crazy about spending $600 for a new set of front tires at 24,000 miles (inside tread worn bare) and the fact that my speedo died one day after warranty and calls to his predecessor and GM were for naught. He says let me make a call. He called a few days ago and said I would have to pay a fifty dollar ded and I get a new speedo! I am really happy and hope the work comes off without a glitch. I am on vacation now and hope it is ready upon my return. I guess persistence helps and the folks here made me aware of that.
Sometimes it takes a little arm twisting to work on these Warrantys.
Remember that you will get a spedo that is the 2006 type with the outside Temp on the DIC. This works with the 2005 model SSR. The Shift posistion Light will now be orange and not the flouresent blue that you have now.

Been over 1 week and still no truck, reordering the speedo for the third time, no wonder the general is in such poor financial condition.

Richard,
If you read my first post, you will see I went through the same thing. One thing for sure they do not keep these things in stock for some reason. Make sure when they are done you have the correct miliage programed back into the spedo. I went through that hassle too. Look on your service order to make sure they noted it correctly. When they are done, that is the first thing to check on.
Well, I've been calibrated and bent over. Lost the speedo (not the spandex version) on the way back from Penticton. By the time GM got a unit for me and had it installed, it was $807.99 - and that was after they knocked off $200 from the initial parts cost. As far as I can tell, the speedometer works fine, but the oil pressure gauge reads too high (50 versus 40 cold....) I'll let you know if there are repairs needed, or if I still walk funny.

At that price ...I would be walking funny too !!!
I did check at a local Fort Worth Speedo shop and they usually charge 250. to repair the old one.. You are so close to Mike in AZ that I wonder if he could have found a place around that area that fix's them.. Too late now but what a stiff price.

Ouch. I have one I could have parted with for way less than that... Hope you get all the details fixed.

CALL General Motors!!!
I contacted GM about my speedometer issues & their response was that not enough SSR owners have complained to warrant a recall; here is a copy of their email to me as a follow-up on the issue:

They also stated that once enough SSR owners complained about these speedometers, they would have grounds to issue a recall where owners could get new ones free & owners who had already replaced theirs could get a refund.
I want to challenge any & all other SSR owners to complain to GM whether you have a problem or not (remember, even if you do not have a problem now, you will eventually).
My SSR: Black, '03, 1sb, #1256, License Plate was WOW FCTR

I do not believe that to be true.
147,000 miles on mine, no problem yet
I think there are more people with interior handle breakage and I see that as a safety issue...and no recall on that yet.
make sure you use the seach option Connie for speedo problems and reasd it all some owners are saying with multiple start ups the problems go away others get speedo fixed good luck with yours

I sent a post reply earlier, seems like I did something wrong, now it works.
Here is my original post:
Our slingshot yellow 2005 SSR (1 FUNTRK) has the speedo problem many of you have described. Just started happening.........Bruce (my husband) is the everyday driver of 1 FUNTRK, he reviewed all the input and will try a couple things in AZ to see if he can fix it.......he does all his own work. He has been driving the SSR for 2 yrs and this is our first problem with the speedo.........17,000 miles. The only other problem was the passenger door inside handle, which he replaced with the new upgraded version available at the dealer. He will notify GM to get on the list of complaints and hope GM has a recall.

Time to start calling GM
Been having the same trouble and my dealer says he don,t want to touch it. They like to play with truck when in for warranty. Looking at trying to bring down to Dallas and leave it for couple weeks to get fixed. Maybe Classic Chevy? or ??? Denny
My SSR: '05 Concept Truck, powered by Heavy Duty rubberbands, and a really BIG WINDUP KEY!
Just talked to the Service Tech at Huffines, and he said the TSB did NOT cover the 2005 or 2006 SSR. However, since mine was built in Febuary '05, I am wondering if the speedometer might have been from a 2004 batch.
When they look at itt on their computer, will there be anything that tells them when the Speedometer Cluster was made?

Follow up, .. the tech just called (3:51p), and
1. They have to pull the speedometer cluster out and send it off to be rebuilt. It could take 3 - 4 days. Maybe even longer.
2. The TSB does not cover SSR's, PERIOD, so my argument that the Diagnostice device said it was built in 2004 does not hold.
