Today I Installed the Silver Star ULTRA bulbs- these are new from Sylvania 9005SU
Also, I put in the PIAA bulbs part number 15211 H11 XTREME WHITE PLUS
I am going to the Pa Covered Bridge Run next weekend.
I will provide feedback then.
FYI - the O.E. lamps are high quality bulbs.
However, I want a BRITE WHITE beam on the road. This is the reason for the upgrade to new bulbs.
For 2008, I am planning to install the highest quality LED's for Running Lamps,
Brake Lamps and Reverse Lamps. White LED's are excellent upgrades both
on the exterior and for interior lighting.

Due to the Refractor of the Brake Lamp Housing, the O.E. Sphere- shaped Glass Bulb provides the best light from a radius viewing.
Spherical glass bulbs are rated by MSCD.
Mean Spherical Candela (MSCD)
The average value of the luminous intensity of a light source in all directions. To convert MSCD to Lumens, multiply by 4pi (12.57).
This is critical in an SSR because of the Brake / Tail Light Refractor.
LED's will give the most light when looking directly at them.
There are multi-led bulbs with a radius rating approaching 140 degree arc.
Current Beam Pattern for LED's is 12 to 35 degrees. This will not give a good brite red light from an angle and the Refractor will be useless.
SSR uses a 3157 style bulb and high quality LED's are to be available early 2008.

Mike...I talked to the Dakota Digital people when On the HRPT in June about LED taillights. They said the quantities they would sell to a limited edition productions, meaning our "R"'s wouldn't make it worthwhile. Think some of that is but that's his statement.

Here is a link to some very cool led's. Chick has them in his truck, there are 30 LED's facing the rear and 15 LED's facing the reflector. They really look great!! The only problem is they are pricey. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...D:100000376678

LCM vrs Load equalizer
You will want to use a Lighting Control Module to reinstate the original flasher rate. The LCM is a plug and play solid state unit and allows the use of LED bulbs in all the SSR lights and even a trailer if so equiped.
The load equalizer is a resistor and it's wired parellel with the LED bulb they get very hot and you have to have some elec skills to wire them in.
Whereas the LCM simply plugs in under the dash exactly like the OEM unit in fact the ones I can get are the same as Chevorlet uses "Grote".
I also can get Super Bright LEDs that will plug in the 3157 taillight plug, I'm sure I can get others as well such as the spiderlights.

Took Lonnie's advise and ordered a LCM (Lighting Control Module) to slow down my signals. Went to Napa the one in Lonnie's picture above is the standard LCM that's in our SSR's #44140 Grote cross's with GM's#15231201 and Napa's LM485. The LCM I ordered is Napa's # LM 487 for LED's cost $76.89 + tax. Installed this morning 5 Min's turn signals back to normal thanks for the advise Lonnie...
So I still feel it's the best $182.83 ($99.98 Spiderlites/$82.85 LCM) I've spent for improvements on the taillights. 3 to 4 times brighter than OEM... Took the GQ out today and noticed in day lite when I hit the brakes anyone in back of me backed off real quick they must be blinding at night....

It's the best way - plug n play. BTW, I can get the Grote module for $75 including shipping. PM me for info.
Here is copy of the light bulbs as found on the OSRAM Sylvania website.
On my 2005 SSR, I removed the original lamps to verify this listing and found many of the O.E. bulbs are Sylvania Long Life Bulbs.

The upgrade for the low beams is to install H9 bulbs (2100 lumens) in place of the original H11 bulbs (1350 lumens). You have to shave a slight ridge of plastic from the H9 bulb's connector so the H11 socket will fit it. H9 direct order link is here:
H9 bulb
Your high beams can also be significantly upgraded if you will Replace the existing 9005 bulbs with 9011. The new bulbs are not some tinted or overwattage version of 9005, but rather employ a relatively new technology called HIR, Halogen Infrared Reflection. The mechanical dimensions of the bulb are all virtually identical to the 9005, but the bulb glass is spherical instead of tubular, with the sphere centered around the filament. There is a "Durable IR Reflective" coating on the spherical glass. Infrared = heat, so the coating causes heat to be reflected back to the filament at the center of the sphere. This causes the filament to become much hotter (producing more light) than it can by passing electricity through it, *without* the shorter life or greater heat production that comes with overwattage bulbs (to say nothing of overwattage bulbs' incompatibility with stock wiring.)
These bulbs are costly as bulbs go - $29/ea - but their cost is worth considering in context: Any number of companies will charge you more than this for a tarted-up 9005 with blue colored glass (PIAA and Sylvania Silverstar come to mind) that doesn't produce more light and has a very short lifespan.
The HIR bulbs have a double-wide top ear on the plastic bulb base, this is to comply with the law requiring different bulbs to have different bases.
The extra-wide plastic top ear is easily trimmed or filed to make the bulb fit your headlamp's bulb receptacle. Once that's done, they go directly into the headlamp, and the existing sockets snap on. Please see HIR bulb base modification for details.
