WOW I had that issue but it was the ignition module. It could still be the problem. It could be the anti theft is messing up.

Thanks for posting the fix on this, it may help someone else down the line. Since yours seems to be the highest milaege SSR you are more or less pioneering for the rest of us so we know what some of the weak points and limitations may be in years to come. I know it's a big responsibility but you have big shoulders John

This sounds like {no, not the ignition switch) the system doesn't recognise the shifter is in park. That broken wire that was found may not be the only one. When you put it in park, can you take it out now with out depressing the brake pedal? and does the key turn all the way back, or just back far enough to shut off the engine? I think now, it is possibly a low voltage issue that is linked to the security system. Who knows, so complex are these little trux.

at my local Chevy dealer, when a vehicle comes in with electrical
problems and has an after market anti-theft system they first thing they
do is disconnect that system and go from there.

ok...spent all day charging the battery so that I can take it to the dealer tomorrow....I just unhooked the charger and disconnected the battery without testing it though because rain clouds just appeared out of no where.

I feel your pain. It happened right after you jinxed yourself by posting that you never had an ignition switch problem!
Well it was my truck that has a problem (was not ignition switch) and it too is finally making it to the dealer this week.

Ok....SSR shifts out of park....I can now take the key out.....I think the fan went

This connector had a ground wire the got cut

But after splicing in a new wire, it looks like more wires (or connections) failed

So I purchased a new connector and had it installed.

This connector was located under the shifter.

I will have to check out my fan, but I am sure that messing around with jumping the SSR when the battery was drawn down because I could not get the key out, has damaged the fan in some way as the engine got hotter than it has been in 4 years and it was only 60 degrees out.

Glad to read you got it fixed! We will all be checking out wires and connectors now, thanks for being the guinea pig

Sorry to read about the fan, but order Mike's replacement is my advice.

I have an OEM replacement in my garage....I was thinking about just swapping it out....I KNOW I should go with Mike's replacement, but I'm trying not to spend too much money before I know whether I continue to have a job after Oct., when my work contract is up for rebid.

Understood,
I still run my OEM, but have Mike's still in a box just waiting for mine to stop running or for me to stop running...whichever comes first

That's what I was going to suggest checking first too. Kinda hard to think the fan itself would be toast from jump starting.

VERY common for the fan to die from improper jump starting...just fyi

yes the fuse will die, but fan can follow.

This sounds to me like the shift cable on the transmission is either broken or disconnected. You will have to get under the truck and take a look. I don't believe that this is an electrical problem. Hope this helps

Yes, I would guess moving the wire back and forth a lot caused it to break.
