Hey Guys,

Has anyone tried to replace their own steering wheel and how difficult is it?

I'll be swapping mine out in just a couple of weeks, maybe SSR6SPD will share the secret with both of us?

Ask & you shall receive....

DISCONNECT negative battery cable with your windows down.

2 small holes on the back side of the wheel shroud.

small blunt instrument on each side of lower shroud. Push until you see the air bag pop out on each side.

gently turn the bag over. You will see 2 wires coming from the column that attach to the bag.

take a very small screwdriver and gently remove the yellow caps that go to each wire.

gently squeeze the terminal caps and gently lift up. They are color coded so you cant mess them up.

unplug the black connector.

you will need a 13/16 socket, 6” extension and a ratchet or breaker bar. (I used 1/2 drive)

holding the wheel with one hand, loosen the nut most of the way.

remove the ratchet or breaker bar from the extension and give the extension a sharp rap with a hammer. No need to kill it. If one shot doesn't loosen it up, a second will.

once you see the wheel pop, remove the nut all the way even though I believe the wheel can only go on one way, make sure to mark the location.

gently lift the wheel off.

you will see a white plastic sleeve that goes from the bottom of the wheel to the steering column. This is for your horn.

take a very small screwdriver and loosen the 2 taps on either side of the plastic sleeve and lift it out. An extra hand may help.

I have made one small change to the above that seems to make live a bit easier. When you go to hit the extension bar, place your knees behind the wheel and add a little up pressure. IF AT FIRST IT DOES NOT POP, DO NOT LOOSE YOUR PATIENCE. Just add a bit more pressure from the rear. I change them all the time and never had to hit one more then 3 times.

Good luck and thanks for posting this Mike.
