Got in my ssR on Sunday after being out of town for a week and the 6cd changer part of the radio isn't working, was working when I left but now I hit CD and nothing, I had all 6 slots loaded but now the display says that 2 isn't in there so I think it might have been jammed or something. If i go and try to hit eject several times a INITIALIZING message comes on but turns off afterwhile and nothing happens. Its no making any mechanical noise and like I said you hit the radio button and that part works fine. Any assistance would be appreciated, is this a common part that fails? How do I get out the CD's if I do have to get a new one? And finally where would I find one like it or another that would work with the integrated steering wheel buttons?

I hate to suggest the dealer because in the past dealers have told me they fo not work on radios (on other vehicles) but they might kn ow who is qualified. It sounds like maybe a belt in the works broke and it is just stuck mid process. Good luck.

ANY SCRAP YARD SHOULD HAVE A REPLACEMENT FROM EITHER A TRAILBLAZER OR A TAHOE/YUKON IF YOU REALLY NEED ONE.
It sounds as if it is jammed. Either way the dash panels will have to be removed to get at the radio.
Myself I would pull the radio and remove the cover to see if something is jammed. Then plug it back in and attempt to operate it with out the cover to see what's actually happending inside. But that's just me.

Before you do anything . Find and remove the fuse for the radio. wait then put it back turn the key on and test.
The unit is a small computer you can reset. This has worked many times.Pres and hold the load button when you turn on the truck and it should eject all of the CD's if not time for a replacement.

I pulled the fuse and then hit the load button to no effect, now it's only showing a cd in the 4 slot....guess I'll have to take the dash apart to see whats going on, I just can't believe that it's already gone out as I've only got 12k on my truck......

Exactly the same thing happened tous on our '06 with about 8K miles on the odo. I took it to the dealer and they did an "exchange". Seems that this is a common failure mode. They should be able to retreive your CDs and mail them to you. I understand that the unit needs to be disassembled to get them out. Not good news, but I hope it helps....

If I wanted to replace my factory radio with an aftermarket one is there any thing that I should be aware of? I was on crutchfield and under notes it said "Important Requirements:
You'll lose the factory warning chime if you replace the factory radio. We don't recommend replacing the factory radio."
Now I'm not sure what they meant but it's got to be a first that some place is trying not to sell you something. Anyone replaced their radio and run into a problem?
Although my 6-CD unit was working fine, I recently replaced it with a Kenwood DNX5120 that includes a navigation system. There are OEM harnesses that you can have the tech install in order to keep the door chime, as well as maintain use of the buttons on the steering wheel. They also comply with warranty conditions so as to not invalidate your warranty.
BTW...If you are interested in my old unit...make me an offer...SSR2SM
