When I accelerate (at any speed) there is a distinct whistle noise coming from the dash area. It goes up in pitch until the next shift then goes down when the tranny goes to the next gear. The Dealer said this was normal but it is very irritating. The truck has 1800 miles on it and the whistle has been with the truck almost since I bought it.

Any ideas among the many out there?
Thanks.
Is it coming from the vents? Or behind the dash?

Well both the Driver and passenger hear it the same. It is the same noise if the A/C is on or off. It does sound like it is coming through the firewall but it is hard to say. I searched for "whistle" and "acceleration" noises but could not find anything on point in the archives.

make sure the window rubber weatherstripping on your doors is not pinched. I know this doesn't address the acceleration issue, but won't hurt to check.
If it is pinched, it is quite simple to fix. just heat it up and seat the windo while pulling on the rubber and let sit overnight.
It may repeat itself, mine does a couple times a year, usually when I am on a road trip, then I have to fix it without heat and hope it stays fixed....
Other than that, can't venture another guess as to what it might be.

Umm got me stumped.. (doesn't take much ) I had some leaves in the vents once... & it made noise with or without the a/c ... but it was definitely a noise in the vent.. ummmm maybe some will know...

If the radio is on, it could be Alternator whine, and that means the DC filter for the radio could be bad.

I've heard the same whistle on occasion from my 06. I think I remember reading it was the Bose whoofer, which is powered even with the radio off, picking up alternator or blower motor whine. I haven't heard for some time now, it was only occasionally anyway.

Alternator whine for sure
You'll be chasing a ground issue of some sort. Call Cris Esquer at Freeway Chevrolet and get him to do some checking for ground issues. The SSR has a lot of ground ties between the engine, frame and body. some for heavy power use like starting and others to shunt unwanted electrical noise from the many on-board systems. Chris should be able to help. 480-735-0338

Thanks All! Mike...I'll give Chris a call. He said it was normal but the noise has gotten much worse since I last saw him. I drive the SSR every day so it needs to be addressed.
Mike...looking forward to the new mods from you! Send me a PM when you have had the opportunity to fab up all three of the additions. No hurry, no worry. Since the heat has gone down I am much less concerned about the single main fan going out.

Does the whistle only occur when you are moving, say above 25 MPH? I had a similar problem which was more like a bumble bee sound resonating from the engine cowl between the engine compartment and the windshield. Got the cowling replaced and noise went away.
If you have similar noise under these conditions PM me and I will tell you how to absolutly determine if it is the cowling.
You are getting lots of good ideas, that is what the Forum is good at.
STRANGE WHISTLE NOISE = Service Bulletin # 06-07-30-017
Scot,
Check on Service Bulletin # 06-07-30-017. It concerns the torque converter on 2005 & 2006 SSRs among others. Subject; 4L60E, 4L65-E, 4L70-E Automatic Transmission High Pitched Whine, Whistle, Chirp or Buzz Type Noise at 1,500-1,800 RPM (Replace with Updated Torque Converter)
Condition.
Some customers may comment on a high pitched whistle or whine type noise at approximately 1,500-18,00 rpm while in any forward gear with the torque converter clutch(TCC) disengaged. This noise is typically easier to duplicate when driving up a slight grade when accelerating. This noise will stop when the TCC is engaged.
Cause.
The torque converter pump blade may cause the condition. A torque converter pump blade revision is expected in production by the end of July, 2006. Correction
To determine the location of the noise, use the chassis ears with a small acoustic clip-on microphone plugged in to the chassis ear ampplifier. Drive the vehicle to duplicate the concern using the chassis ears and the Tech 2 to apply and release the TCC. If the noise is coming from the bell housing area only, when the TCC is commanded off, replace the torque converter.
Hey...what is that for....I ain't short....and I was going to say roll the windows up and the wind would quit rushing through your head...but decided to be nice...it's a grounding wire on the radio....Jewlz had that issue...

Nautical Dave....it even whistles when the radio is off. The volume of the whistle is not affected by the radio on or off or the A/C on or off. It does change pitch as it moves to the next gear as it upshifts...going up then dropping down at the shift point then going up as speed increases.
