Suggested Exhaust...

I have a 2006 Two-Tone SSR. I still have the stock exhaust on it, but I am very interested in putting an aftermarket exhaust on it. I am leaning towards the 40 series Flow Master, but I am up for any suggestions ya'll may have.

Let me know what ya'll think.

Thanks in advance!

I put on the 50 series mufflers and it gives a real nice deap mellow sound that is fairly loud but acceptable on accelleration but not uncomfortable in the cabin.

Is FlowMaster the best exhaust for the price or is there another brand I should consider?

Any other brands of Mufflers I need to look into other than CORSA & FlowMasters?

In my opinion, Flowmasters are kind of the widely recognized performance sound for High Performance Gm V8s. I have used other makes of mufflers for other vehigles like Magnaflows and Corsas, but for me GM V8s get Flowmasters.
I have never had a quality issue with them where I have had resonation issues with some others.

Kind of like Sardines and Peanut Butter. They just go together really well.

I appreciate all the help!

I think I'm going to go with Super 40 Series. I like the rumble it produces and since my SSR isn't my primary vehicle, i can live with the interior noise when i'm driving.

Great, good luck.

These trucks are such a thrill. If you have a LS2 you might want to also try the K&N or AirRaid drop in filter. I don't know the K&N number but the AirRaid equivalent is 850-118 and remove your MAF screen. It makes a lot of difference. Also make sure you have them cut over 2 separate pipes. There reportedly is room and it makes a big difference. I went the 1 in 2 out and regret it. The muffler shop told me there wasnt enough room but many others have done it.

There are many entries on these links with pictures and explanations.

I do have the LS2 and I love the power it produces. Everything is currently stock. It's the Smokin' Asphalt on Ricochet Silver two-tone SSR. I absolutely love it.

It's my secondary vehicle, so it's garage kept. I am limited on what I can spend on it currently, so expensive aftermarket add-ons are going to have to wait. That's why I am only going to replace the muffler & not do a cat-back system.

However, I do have the K&N Air intake kit ordered and am anxious to receive & install it!

Thanks for the heads up on the exhaust tip. I'll start searching for that cut over of the 2 pipes. I have a friend who owns a muffler shop, so it'll be easy to explain what needs to be done.

No Muffler

Well today I bit the bullett. I took the muffler off and ran a straight pipe where the muffler was.

Inside & Outside on an idle it sounds about the same.

If you take off normal (which is hard for me) it is louder.

If you put your foot in it it kicks ass.

At 65 mph it sounds about the same.

But if you hit passing gear Hee Hee!!

That's the sound I was looking for and only cost me $60.00 (so far)

Mike

I went with the Flowmaster 50 series 1 in 2 out. It is the perfect sound and performance. You would not be sorry.

Does it sound like the typical truck with the chrome tips out the back? Does it pop alot when you lift off the throttle...

When you let off the throttle it kinda sounds like my 49 chevy did when I disconnected the vacum line off the carb.

Interesting, when you gas on it and it shifts at 5500 it sounds like a cannon shot.

I haven't had the top down since the change (but I just like noise).

My Harley has 2- 8" Howitzers on it. I usually bring up the tail cause nobody wants to ride behind me!

Do you guys get resonance in the interior? There is something that buzzes every time i go above 2,800 rpm. Funny thing is when i put the top down and then back up, there is no sound but every now and then it comes back and its driving me crazy. I took it to the dealership hoping that it might be something loose that just needs tightening, but instead the guys at the dealership couldnt do anything and basically told me to live with it.

Is just a straight pipe a good idea or should there be some sort of a "muffler" no matter what....this is a tough issue as everyone has their own idea of what sounds good..a/t vs 6 spd matters too..

I had exhaust resonance at a certain RPM and when I changed exhaust the resonance happened at a higher RPM. But I've also had a buzzing sound (infrequently) from behind the seat that doesn't have anything to do with the RPMs....I don't have a clue as to what it could be

Yup thats the same one

i figured it might have been the seat and the dealer thought so too. they got rid of the passenger seat and the sound was still there. they looked at the compartment where the rooftop comes down and everything was ok. I think it must be the cable that is about a quarter of an inch away from the metal part in the compartment but that was just my guess. if it was the cable, then there is nothing that can be done to move it and to be honest, since the ssr is a special imported car in my country, i wouldnt want them messing with anything.
