Lightbulb Switch DRL to the amber running lights?

Has anyone tried to modify the daytime running lights [DRL] to use the amber running lights instead of the low beams? I have seen other GM models use the ambers [vette, solstice, etc.] instead of the headlights and I think it adds something to the looks of the vehicle. I don't want to detract from the "auto" headlight functions though.

Doug:

Turn the Light Switch, on the left side of the dash, to its middle position. This will shut off the HeadLights and turn on the Running Lights. This is the way I operate all the time.

Regards, Chick

Amber as the default auto

Thanks Chick. Doesn't that light up the tail lights too? I have done what you suggested in the past but I was hoping to use the auto function, just on the ambers because the look is so much better.

Yes Doug... It lights the rear and the side lights along with the front amber lights. Your only other option will be to program the DRL feature OFF.

Take care... Chick

I'm sure it COULD be done, but it would involve some amount of rewiring, etc. Mike in Az would probably be best suited to sort it out.

BUT...Gm uses the bright amber filament (turn signal) for the drl on vehicles equipped to use the amber drl's. The brighter filament in constant-on mode may generate too much heat for the amber light housing. A switch to an led bulb would take care of that, but would the led control system within the bulb cause more issues?

Get's a little deep.
