Synthetic auto trans fluid

Does any one know if there would be a significant benefit to running synthetic trans fluid in an automatic and also how many quarts would I need.
Thanks in advance

If you could find a way to extract all of the fluids you would need about 11 qts for a refill. The best way to purge the system of old fluid is to find a shop with a fluid exchange machine and let them suck out all the old fluid and replenish with the synthetic of your choice. This method will consume about 16 qts of fluid for a complete "transfusion". Synthetic fluid is costly but the benfits of high resistance to heat and long life of friction modification properties make it an excellent choice for those seeking the best in transmission lubrication and performance. I'm an Amsoil user but BG makes a good fluid as do Mobil, Redline, Royal Purple and others. Using a synthetic fluid will allow you 50,000 mile or better service intervals even if you are crazy about maintenance. I would have no problem running 100,000 miles on a synthetic fill under normal conditions. It is just that good for the trans.

Thanks Tomahawke
The stripes are tape I would recommend it highly they seem to be holding up real well and they were around $300.00 installed

I have not been aware of any changes to shift quality only by changing the fluid to synthetic. Sometimes shift quality will change because the original additives in the factory fill have deteriorated and by replenishing these friction modifiers you may notice some differences in shift charachteristics. Due to the quality of the syntetic fluid these additives will remain stable for much longer than conventional fluids.

The AMSOIL ATF has been reformulated to meet the new Dexron VI specification (and is still backwards compatible with Dexron III). The new formulation is in AMSOIL distribution centers, but so is the old stock. AMSOIL will formally announce the new formulation in a month or so when the older stock is depleted.

If anyone wants the new spec now, please drop me a PM and let you know how to order it so you don't accidently get the old spec. :
