1. Has anyone installed and tested the "Dakota Digital Tire Pressure Monitor"?

2. How did your monitor mount to the wheel?

3. Are currently any others being offered?

Just bought a Suburban LT 2 weeks ago. One of the options is a tire monitoring
system.I think it's just the greatest and wondered why it isn't on our SSRs
since we don't have a spare. The sensor in the wheel is part of the valve stem.
I am going to look into this Dakota Digital System.

My '03 Impala had it so Chevrolet does install from the factory on some cars. It was nice having it - worked great. I had a valve stem that leaked for a couple of months and it let me know when I needed add air.

I had a Dakota Digital system installed on my new wheels this week - wheels and tires are on the road from Newstalgia, unfortunately too late for this week's road trip.

I'm going to try to mount the DD gauge in place of the GPH on the auxiliary pod. If that won't work, I picked up a black autometer mount, which should mount up to the bolt under the dash panel just left of the auxiliary pod.

The senders are coded to specific position, but can be reprogrammed for a tire rotation - not an issue on the SSR. The sensor is mounted at the lowest center point of the rim, held in place by a large stainless band - basically a huge hose clamp.

It was a bit dicey installing them on a soft lip wheel - the tire valves are mounted dead center to keep the dish totally clean, potentially interfering with the band. Not a problem on a standard wheel design with a front mounted valve stem.

The system has a receiver mounted under the dash, wired to the gauge.

Senders operate by centrifugal force - they shut off when the vehicle stops, and will turn on at approx 8 mph

The system has an alarm which will indicate a problem if the pressure drops 3 psi below your preset limit, and can be switched to check tire temperature.

More feedback when I actually install the system.

I have a system on my "other car" and the sending unit is built into the tire stem. No chance of it rotating and being out of balance. I guess a spot of epoxy or double sided tape would help the straps hold the Dakota style units.

I e-mailed GOOD YEAR TIRE CO. and asked them about using a tire sealant in our tires. Their reply was that they could not recommend using a sealant, as it would mask a puncture until the tire had a total failure.

I told them what tire and vehicle I was talking about and they said to add a monitoring system.

The quest continues.....................

I sure like this model, as the monitor does not go inside tire, and does not require balancing to install or replace.

that looks easy enough. i picked up a nail in the right rear tire a few weeks ago and got the tire fixed. now i am always wondering about the pressure and i check pressure weekly at the local hess station. this station actually has free air.

unlike flassh, jim g, and some of you other fortunate people who actually know how to do stuff to cars, my service ability is limited to filling the tires and washing the car and polishing with zaino. anything else and i'm at a loss. wonder if this system is any good? seems simple enough, even for me......
