Has anyone had a problem with their gas gauge and has an idea if it can be fixed. Mine is either are overfilled or way below empty-it never reads properly. And tires, I have been looking and looking for a complete set and it seems that nobody has the rear tires only the front and I am so confused about speed ratings. I need tires but I don't want to sell the farm every 12,000 miles to get them, anyone find a better solution? Thanks!
My SSR: 05 Ricochet Silver born 10/04, adopted 09/10
anniepots,
There is a ton of info on this forum about tires, but here is what I just did. Went to Discount Tire and got:
Fronts- Continental Extreme Contact DWS 255/50Z/R19 (1/2" taller)@ $ 223.00 ea
Rears - Continental Extreme Contact DWS 295/40Z/R20 (OEM Size) @ $ 252.00 ea
I replaced OEM Goodyears and am REALLY pleased with the difference in ride, road noise and handling with the new tires.
One man's opinion.....

I got the 'Generals' on sale at the Tire Rack, right around $500. Having same problem with gas gauge, put car in shop for windshield wipers, AGAIN, now gas gauge is kaput. Gonna find another shop, fingers crossed.
Thank you for all your input, I am on the East Coast. Cold 5 degrees this morning, brrrr.
I am going to check out the General grabbers, I am going back to the place that sold me the front tires and tell them to get the Generals. I got the front tires from them on the promise that they would get me the rears. They don't know who they are dealing with, grrr. Thank you on the tip for the gas gauge, mine is totally kaput now, won't move at all:-( Here is something wierd, we are drive home New Year's day and at a traffic light we hear someone tooting their horn, looked over and I see another couple from MA in a 2004 "RED" SSR just like mine! What are the odds, same car, same light, same time!

I have had the same problem with the gas gauge in my SSR. It was the fuel level sending unit in the gas tank. To repair this, the tank has to be dropped out of the truck and a new sending unit installed. Not rocket science, but requires enough manhours that it will not be cheap.
Contact your local Chevy service department for pricing on the replacement of the sensor. When you get there, have them verify that it is the sensor. They can do this simply with a "tech 2" by plugging it into the connector under the steering column. They can see the sensor reading directly through the computer from there. It only takes 1-2 minutes, so don't let them give you a "diagnostic charge" on your bill. That's NOT acceptable.
Regards,
Mike
