Tires and vibration

Today, outa the blue my truck started vibrating when I hit 70mph. It vibrated for a few seconds, stopped for a few seconds, started again etc in very regular intervals. Ok, this was totally strange so I ran her up to the dealer. After they drove it and then took a look I was told it was something called "tire band separation" and they are ordering (for free) two new tires. Has this happened to anyone else????

btw..since this is two days before the keys run I may just steal Bear's tires

I've heard many names for it. At least they are stepping up.

Cool that you're getting the tires for free.

Front passenger side tire was out of round on my wifes . Replaced . Still vibrates at 70mph. Dealer is taking it to a shop tomorrow to force spin it on the truck . Also supposed to fix the roof leak. Let you know tommorow evening.

I had the same dealer diagnosis...except I brought the truck in because it pulled to the right. I never had a vibration problem prior, just a pulling. They diagnosed the front tires as having "tread separation" even though I saw no signs of it. They replaced both front tires, for free. I got the truck back with NO weights whatsoever on either of the front rims. Now I HAVE an intermittent vibration as described above...and the truck STILL pulls to the right. Dealer states they can duplicate neither the vibration nor the pulling. My dealer DOES have a road force balancer, and told me that the wheels ARE balanced which I don't believe; what are the odds that BOTH front wheels/tires would be balanced with NO weights at all, given the history of these rims and tires having difficulty being balanced due to out-of-round problems? They also gouged up the inside of the rims attempting to take the old sticky weights off. I posted a thread about it some months back.

But, blaming front end vibration and/or pulling problems on the tires for free replacements seems to not be an isolated occurence.

I agree. Have seen many posts stating tread separation. Also the rims can be out of round...maybe from hitting a pot hole. Mine has had a vibration for more than 20,000 miles. I will get the rims looked at when I get new tires shortly.

They'd be buying me new rims if they screwed them up!!!

Re-balanced the tire today. Seems to be ok now.
They put some cauking under the roof seal also(like I knew they would)[and it didn't work before either]. Will give it the CUP-O water test tomorrow after it sets up. Tenn. law gives them 1 more chance to fix it (4 total), then I'm going to make them eat it.
