Today, I have a question about battery charger.

Hello again to all the guys here who know more than me.

I am slowly learning more about my SSR and today I have a question concerning Battery Chargers. There may be a time when I will not drive the SSR for several weeks and want to be sure I hook the charger up the correct way so I will not damage any computer electronics or anything like that and to be sure it all stays up and running correctly. I purchased a charger at Sam's Club made by Black and Decker. It says it is microprocessor controlled and will automatically go into 'float charge' and keep battery fully charged. It will automatically shut off when battery reaches full charge and keep it topped off. The description from the web site is quoted below.

I would like to know if this is the correct way to hook up the charger. I know it is not rocket science but I do not want to damage any electronics. So, hook positive cable from charger to postive post under hood in RED box. Hook negative cable from charger to block by alternator. Plug charger into AC outlet and turn on. Set charger to 2 AMP setting since battery should be almost fully charged now and walk off and forget it until I start car next time.

Charger description..."2/10/25 AMP Charger with 75 AMP Engine Start......The smart battery charger will charge a wide range of 12 volt batteries from a motorcycle to a truck. This one charger eliminates the need to have multiple chargers for your different needs since it does it all, including float charging."

I assume if I follow my own instructions, everything will be OK?
Thanks again everyone....

2 weeks should be no problem

After my first buggy was stolen from work, the replacement stays home and is used on weekends or trips. no problems after 1 week with the battery, no problems with the battery after 2 weeks (driver is starting to have withdrawal). By the third weekend I take it out, not to charge the battery, but to give me a fix. Been doing this for 18 months and no problems.

I stored mine for six months without a charger and it fired right up as normal. I don't know that you'd have to get worried about the charge in the battery if it's only going to be a few weeks at a time.
