Toyo Tires

so the other questions I got at the Dayton bash was about my Toyo tires. I think there has been posts on this before but it seems there is still interest in alternatives to Goodyear.

I was happy with the stock wheels but wanted a little bigger footprint on the front (having had my ABS kick in at around 50mph under hard braking). I wanted a tread that was sporty but would handle clearing a lot of water (Florida Summer thunderstorms).

I still wanted a decent ride and was not looking for a low profile tire ('cos an SSR will never handle like a sports car)

I decided to go with 275x45x19 on the front and 295x45x20 on the back. I looked around and decided to order from treadepot.com TOYO*PROXES S/T
Their prices were good and the delivery was very timely. My local Tire Kingdom store did the mount, balance and alignment.

I have been using them for two months and am very pleased. No clearance issues and they ride really nicely. Using the taller tire in the back will mean the speedometer is a little off. It is a minor variance but can be corrected with tuning software if needed. In February, I paid $716 for all four, plus $50 in tax.

In the following pictures you can see the stance, fatter tire on the front (gives a little extra rim protection) and the tread pattern from the back.

I've had TOYO's on for almost two years now and love them. the highter tire/tread looks like I lowered my SSR and the wider stance looks cool. You might not see it but there is thicker treat too that adds total mileage life.

These are GREAT alternative tires but a little tough to locate.

Toyo are a long standing Japanese manufacturer of tires, very popular with the drifting set!

Toyo Tires

I just bought a set, had to drive down to Grapevine, Texas to get them. It saved me some money and a weeks wait. I like them so far. They do look really good! Jose

My stock tires had 40K and it was like riding on ice in anything damp.
They are really great tires on the SSR.
Only took a day to get them.

New addco sways and toyo's, corners are way cool.........

toyo rear will 305 or 315 fit without hitting anything

Rear Tires: Has anyone tried the Proxes S/T
305x50 20
or
315x35x20

What is the widest tire that I can put on the back?
Please advise.
Thanks

I bought Mike Powell's wheels and he was running the 315/35-20 on his.
I plan on doing the same.
He said they filled the wheel wells better, more rubber on the road and did not hit.
They are a little smaller in diameter than stock so your speedometer will be off a bit.

They just opened a plant in White, GA. Its a small town that my mother was born and raised in.

Japan's Toyo Rolling into Georgia with 900-Job Tire Plant

I was glad to see the plant locate there. Several other manufacturing plants there have went belly up so it provided jobs for several people I know that lost their jobs in that area. I will consider these tires when I need new ones because I know I might be able to help people I know personally have job security.

Just last wensday I put a set of Toyo's on and really like them. The ride seems a lot better and were fairly easy to get and the price was right. Rained thursday and the handling was good . Wife even noticed thr ride difference.

jgssr, John,

I'll find all that out tomorrow when I go in search of two TOYO 19"ers.

Toyo Tires

My OEM tires are worn very thin in the center on the rears and the vehicle is scary on wet pavement, so I'm looking into the S/T's. The front tires still look good, but at 24K, I probably should change all 4 in the interest of safety. I've been searching tire threads (no pun intended) for a couple of weeks now on this forum and see quite a variety of tire sizes mentioned. Some folks want to get lower and wider, while others stay the same, and a few get taller.

Because the roads are in such bad shape, I think I'll go slightly taller with the 255/50-19 and 295/45-20. I also hope to get a more comfortable ride with some more sidewall flex. My 05 auto has the phoenix convertor and American Axle 4:10 gears.

Would anyone of you serious number crunchers calculate this for me? The 4:10's are a 10% reduction, I believe. What % is lost to the slightly greater circumference of these tires?
