Trailer Hitch

Color my SSR black, and me stupid. I didn't get an owners manual with my 2006 but I needed a trailer hitch so I got one off of EBay... with the knob, and the keys and all that good stuff.

But I'm flipped if I can get it to install correctly. I put it into the receiver, turn the knob, it goes up to the point where it seems to be 1/2" short of all the way (the little triangles on the sides aren't meshed) and i can't get it to go any farther.... no amount of tugging or pulling the lever on the back, the knob on the side, the key in the lock will make it go in.

What am I doing wrong?

Put the key in the slot.
Pull the knob away from the hitch and rotate clockwise keeping fingers away from the little black lever. It will stay.
Push the post up into the receiver and the lever will release the knob andlock the hitch in place.

To remove;
Put key in lock.
Pull knob and rotate clockwise.
Hitch will drop out. Watch your toes.

My 05 book says: Be sure the unit is unlocked before pretensioning. unlock using the key. Then pretension the ball rod by pulling out the handwheel & turning it counterclockwise. When the ball is pretensioned, it means: The red area of the handwheel should be opposite the white marking on the ball rod. The key cannot be withdrawn. The ball rod can only be installed in this position. If the key is inserted & the lock is open. tighten the handwheel slightly & turn clockwise as far as the stop. insert the ball rod as far into the housing as it will go. When this happens, you will hear the lock engauge. Ck. that the ball rod is tight by doing the following: Close the lock, withdraw the key & install the lock cover. The green area on the handwheel should be opposite the white dot on the ball rod. Move the hitch back & forth to ensure it is secured. If you cannot complete all of the above checks, repeat the assembly procedure. Hope this helps Let us know

Worn with pride.
I've been called worse, and it was true.
But no one cares when I'm waving from my SSR, they still envy.
